Modify your navigation system

"Because of outsourcing [of software and system administration jobs], it's one of the only ways a hacker can make money," says Kittridge.
confirmed my guess.
Thanks to outsourcing, hard-core techies like bysin are in a sour spot - they are brilliant at coding software but because of their age they are regarded as having "little/no experience".
The power that be can hire a whole bleeding factory of top-college grads in India for the same $ they need to pay someone like bysin.

So from what I see his greatest achievement was showing how to put an Acura pic on the Nav display(which is pretty neat but not earth shattering) and then he set up an account so you could send him money because he had no computer(well it was taken by the Feds so that part was true) and you still want him to come back and finish the job ...there is one born every minute

OMG... having Ralph's pic looking at me while reading that post was like watching Honeymooner's all over again. Only in the unrated version.

Here is the link to the program including there Visual C++ source code:
http://www.linuxkiddies.com/bysin/navi.zip
This is the ReadMe contained in the zip, it includes step by step instructions on how to use the program:
DumpNAVI by bysin
-----------------
This program is used to list, extract, and modify files contained in an XIP BIN file located on Acura/Honda navigation DVD. This system has been tested on the TSX. Use at your own risk.
Some of the things I have been able to modify are:
- Changed the background picture to my own personal image.
- Removed the "nag screen" at the beginning screen.
- Change some of the words that pop up.
Here are some step-by-step instructions on how to modify files in your navigation system. It requires a DVD-ROM drive and a CD or DVD burner.
1. At the main screen of the navigation system, hold down the Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
2. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen.
3. Hold down the Menu button for 5 seconds.
4. Write down the filename next to the words "Loading Filename" (ex. BNHN404A.BIN).
5. Open your trunk and find the DVD player attached to the navigation system.
6. Push down the front plate and eject the Navigation DVD-ROM.
7. Place the DVD in your computer and copy all 9 BIN files onto your hard drive (should be around 104 MB), this includes:
BN2HH12C.BIN
BN2HH110.BIN
BN2HH120.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
BN2HN12B.BIN
BN2HN18B.BIN
BN2HN380.BIN
BNHH401A.BIN
BNHN404A.BIN
8. Use the dumpnavi tool to extract the files on the BIN file that was on your car, ex:
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN extract
9. The files will extract to the directory associated with the name of the file.
10. After modifying the files, use the dumpnavi tool to update them to the BIN, ex:
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN update Back.bmp
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN update navi.exe navi-nonag.exe
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN update Diag.exe
11. Copy the modified BIN file, including all other BIN files (9 in total) to a blank CD or DVD.
12. Insert the origional navigation DVD back into the DVD-ROM in your car.
13. Start the car normally, and at the main navigation screen hold Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel for 5 seconds once again.
14. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen once again.
15. Take the origional navigation DVD out of the car, and replace it with the CD/DVD you just created.
16. Hit the "Load Disc" button on the Version screen.
17. It should take about 20 seconds for your car to load the new BIN and reboot. Once that happens, take out your burned CD/DVD and put back the origional navigation DVD.
18. If anything goes wrong, remove the ground to the battery for 30 seconds with the origional DVD in the car. The old OS will load back on the system.

Roman-dude,
Bysin's been outta commission for a while now... he won't answer you. But I can.
If rumors are true, an AUX adapter has been perfected for the TSX and TL. That means that an iPod adapter is NOT far away at all. The adapters all work by treating the iPod as a CD Changer. So the Disc + and - buttons move through playlists on the iPod and the Track + and - buttons move through tracks...
So once an iPod adapter becomes available, that'll be possible. You'll never see the track name and stuff on the display though. Unfortunately the head unit just doesn't support it.

OK guys..here is the deal~HELP!
i have tried to figure this out for awhile~but i just can't get this thing to work...
as quoted, i also have 6 bin starting with B, but then it follows it by ADD.bin, zzz10.bin and zzz100.bin instead of all being B's...
on the "readme" bysin provided, it showed that ALL BINS started with B like this..
BN2HH12C.BIN
BN2HH110.BIN
BN2HH120.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
BN2HN12B.BIN
BN2HN18B.BIN
BN2HN380.BIN
BNHH401A.BIN
BNHN404A.BIN
the ADD, zz10 and zzz100.bin seem to have replaced BN2HN380.BIN, BNHH401A.BIN & BNHN404A.BIN.
im guessing this is the reason why i can't get this thing to work....has anyone figured this out? anybody with same problem?
b.t.w, i tried to just restart the systhem with the burned CD already in it, then hitting the "load disk button"...but still, it says "disk error".....

Man you're leaving out the info:
1) WHAT CAR ??? 2004 TSX ?
2) Which BIN file is your systems LOAD FILE ?
3) List out ALL the files extracted.

man you been trying since Day 1 of this thread (post #30)
1) Download the console version
2) Re-read and follow ReadMe.txt
3) Disregard steps #8 & #9
4)
a)Copy and paste BN2HN18B.BIN and Back.bmp into the folder where dumpnavi.exe is located.
b) open DOS command screen
c) if your dumpnavi.exe is located in say C:\temp\blah
then type "cd c:\temp\blah"
5) for step#10 type:
dumpnavi BN2HN18B.BIN update Back.bmp
6) Copy and paste the updated BN2HN18B.BIN back into the folder where you put all the original files
BN2HH12C.BIN
BN2HH110.BIN
BN2HH120.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
BN2HN12B.BIN
BN2HN18B.BIN
ADD.bin
ZZZ10.BIN
ZZZ100.BIN
click OK to replace the file.
7) Follow the rest of the instruction.
now go get it done
#1023
well....it has failed for ma agian...
i just can't figure out what i am doing wrong...i followed the directions~ bleh~
thanks anyway matelot~
remember in bysin's readme he states..
7. Place the DVD in your computer and copy all 9 BIN
files onto your hard drive (should be around 104 MB),
this includes:
BN2HH12C.BIN
BN2HH110.BIN
BN2HH120.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
BN2HN12B.BIN
BN2HN18B.BIN
BN2HN380.BIN
BNHH401A.BIN
BNHN404A.BIN
now he mentions that it should be 104 MB all together..
but when i put all my 9 bin files to my harddrive, the total amout is 345MB..the ADD.BIN file being the size of 287,216 KB~
im wondering if me and BYSIN have a diffrent kind of disk...
AHHHHHHHH! this is driving me nuts!!
BTW..if this thing DID work..i would have had this pix for my background~

when u mean Back.bmp, u ment by copy and pasting my own background right?
when i did that, my background pix name was "acura"...after in DOS, i typed dumpnavi BN2HN18B.BIN update back bmp...and then it said unable to find back.bmp on BIN...
after that..i tried dumpnavi BN2HN18B.BIN update acura bmp...but it also said unable to find acura.bmp on BIN...
so then i proceeded to rename my "acura" to "back"....
when i did that and retyped the dumpnave BN2HN18B.BIN update back.bmp~ i got a message saying "updating back bmp"....
after that, i burned it and tried following the direction, but still got the error message~
sorry for so many questions, im a total newb when doing these stuff~

man you simply did NOT read the instruction carefully and follow it precisely (and first few pages of this thread) :shakehead
How hard is it to just read a little and follow the letters eh ?
>> when u mean Back.bmp, u ment by copy and pasting my own background right?
YES. You should have ALREADY renamed your custom pic to "Backup.bmp" BEFORE you start anything else.
Just start again from scratch...that's all I can tell you.

Missing features w/ MDX after mod
Hi -
I followed the instructions and successfully added the picture - thanks to everyone who contributed details on how to make the image.
Problem: when I loaded up the picture I lost all the menus that show up when you hit AC/setup. Instead of having trip computer, etc., I only have this basic AC control panel.
We have an 03 MDX. I've since "reloaded" with a newer DVD since we wanted to upgrade our map anyway. So we have the new map, but the same problem with the menus. Plus the voice prompts are gone.
Any ideas on how to get these features back? Even if it involves losing the the picture.
thanks,

YO BYSIN, You still here???
UPDATE**
I own a brand new 05 TL. I used bysins GUI version and followed the directions exactly.
Worked first time!!
I burned the bins onto a cdr using nero in the UDF/ISO mode.
The only hang up is the pic displays, then goes blank for a few seconds, then a "GO" button appears.
Then all is just as before.
The BINS are a little different on the TL, I just copied them all (348mbs I think) and loaded the version 401a bin to modify.
My bmp is of the last hole in AMEN CORNER at Augusta National from this years masters. ITS AWESOME!!!! Hole #13
Pretty cool
Anyone have a workaround for the small delay??

Hi all -
Changing the background pic on my nav system sounded awesome, so I tried it, but the 3 button combo took me to a diagnostic screen with no version button to hit. I read through all 42 pages (yeah, it took a while...lol), but I couldn't find anything as to what I was doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Very cool...
Just stumbled on this site/thread. I've got an '05 MDX which I'll try it on tomorrow!
Time to google for an open source SH4 disassembler/assembler to see if any other interesting things can be done. Any coders on here already have partially commented disassemblies or any other helpful tips?

Hi Guys,
I have an accord wagon 24T. It has the Honda InterNav system with internet browser, email voice activation and control of A/C etc, TV, dictaphone, integrated phone, PC card slot, DVD rom drive and so on. It is really cool but in Japanese. The menus I kind of know by messing around with them but it would be great if there was something that could be done to change what the buttons say to english.
It looks reasonably similar to the TSX system.
Have a look here
www.prosperion.com.au/eurowagon
I know it is unlikely to get the GPS working in New Zealand as there are no maps for it and the supplied disc seems to have everything in KWI file format. Is that the same as the US?
I would gladly pay for any help whatsoever to convert some of these features to english.
Cheers,
Charles

Title? What? Yes, of course I have a title...
I have an 02 TL-S Nav. I don't have any of the files listed anywhere in this thread. Instead, I have files with z's in them and directories that have what appear to be version numbers stamped on them. I'm using the 2.20 disc. Does anyone have any info on how I could go about digging into this kind of file? Bysin's extractor doesn't work. I wrote my own tiny app to dig into bin files and it did not work either.
Also, I'm interested in picking up bysin's work on the hack to remove the nag screen (among other things) so is there any way someone could upload one (or more) of their .bin files so I could take a look at them? I'm no expert, but I think I may be able to make significant progress given a chance to see the code.
On the same vein, I can also look at that Eurowagon NAV to see if I can find/access/modify the string map to change the language to english. At best case, it is simply a matter of changing the system font (in the unlikely event that both english and chinese are installed on the disc) or, more likely, reloading the font table with an english font and rewriting the string map with english words. If you can pick out which files are for the executables/dlls/etc and leave out the data files (usually they will be monstrous in size in comparison), and send me them, I can look and see what the deal is.

Shawn, On my DVD for the JDM sat nav I only have KWI, DAT, FRM and ME files. Which would I need to send you to look at the language?
The frm files seem to be associated with the input screens so I was thinking those ones would be the ones. The A/C, and audio screens are largely in english.
