Might be switching to a TSX

Hey whats up guys, Im currently driving a 97 CL and its about that time to upgrade. I found an 04 tsx that I really liked and was just trying to see if there was anything specifically I need to look out for or problems youve had. My mom has an 05 and loves it, but not sure about the 04's. I know im going to get the "search noob" responses, but im at work right now and thought I would try to get some responses because I dont have time to search through everything right now.

Heres some pictures of it for ya...

Hello,
I would go for 06 or newer, i would also suggest getting a certified car. The MMC changes are worth the price. I just leased a 2008 tsx non navi. Good Luck.

Yeah, the '06 has some niceties I'd go for such as a revised style, a little more horse power and a more informative info display, bluetooth and an mp3 aux jack, but maybe the price difference is too great. There's an aftermarket aux jack for the 04 and 05 anyway.

I don't know if they one you're looking at has a navigation system either. If not, you might want to wait for one of them to come along. Remember that if you're anything like me you'll have the car a while so be patient so you don't have buyers remorse after you realized everything you gave up by purchasing too quickly.

wow that pic looks exactly like my TSX, same color with the same tint job, but i still have mine. does it have navi?

04 is alright only things are the harness recall, condensation headlight problem, and the a/c compressor, but all seemed to be covered under warranty. it's just i hated my leather seat cause it gave me a pain in my right leg, which has gone away, but the leather seats are stiff in the 04. not sure if they correct that in the 06 models.

I don't know what they want for it, but when I looked ant 2 year old TSX's, I spent about $1,800 more and got a new one.

Also, I don't know what changed in 2006, but I was told by several people to avoid 04 and 05, but they didn't tell me why.

The car does look nice in the pictures and if you like it buy it.

Thanks, Im going to def look into those and see if he had them fixed already. Carfax shows one owner from mass and then purchased at an auction in rhode island. so hopefully they have the service records from it

and it does have navi, 38k miles....after my trade in its only going to be about 15,500 for it.

Personally, I'd rather go and pay a little more to get a CPO Acura. The car only has 38K miles on it, there's a reason an Acura dealership didn't scoop that up...

If it were an 05 or newer, i wouldnt be skeptical. But ive heard about some nagging problems in the 04- such as center console lights, and the others listed above. It is an Acura, so it prob will last forever if you maintain it well from here on out though. The deciding factor that would make me not choose it are the aftermarket fog light mesh, cheap a spec kit, and it is dropped. If the previous owner was into modding, he may have pushed it. Acura's are meant to pushed but the price would have to be incredible for me to buy it.

There is a greater potential for problems with the 04 as stated above. The majority of the nagging problems were corrected by the 06 model. The 06/07/08 TSX are exactly alike except Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

It sounds like you are getting $7,000-$8,000 for your 97 CL. If you have the time, you can find a used 06 for $22,500-$24,500 as you get closer to year end.

Go to the closest Acura dealership and just test drive 06 just for the fun of it.

The 06/07/08 have:
-memory seats that adjusts the driver 's seat automatically when key fob 1 or 2 is used
-low profile wipers
-updated front bumper (no metal trim on hood also)
-updated rear lights
-standard fog lights
-updated thicker steering wheel with 10 and 2 o'clock grips
-updated shift knob for 5AT
-Updated Multi Information Display (MID)
-Wider seats
- 05 models and up have XM radio, heated side mirrors, a power passenger seat
-upgraded engine intake and exhaust for about an extra 15hp compared to the 04/05
- wide range of aftermarket like hondata reflash and I/H/cat/E that will give you more overall HP/tq for the same $$$ compared to 04/05 model (no S/C yet for 06)
-bluetooth hands free link
-updated and faster Navi with 650 voice commands
- +2 years to correct TSB problems
- standard warranty that will not expire until +2010 (if your mileage is under 50K)
-Additional color choices in 06 (Alabastar Silver, Glacier Blue, Green Pearl, Royal Blue Pearl)

If it has an older NAVI system, you might factor in the cost of the updated disc (I've read $185, YMMV).

DEFINITELY subscribe online to the Consumer Reports user car buying kit, it gets you into all the reviews and reliability matrices, and you get (last time I checked) unlimited used car price reports (normally like $14), which you'll want when negotiating a price on any TSX you find. I've read that CPO (certified pre-owned) cars command a 7%-9% markup, so if you can get CPO at the average used-dealer price as I did, you're probably getting a fair price. I would also look into a CPO with extended "wrap" warranty, as I'm reading about HVAC systems going kaput around 45,000-50,000 miles. If you get a 2004 model, then the extended warranty won't last as long as on a 2006 (it tops out at 100K no matter).

I test drove a 2005 MY and loved it, bought a 2006 and was surprised/delighted by the additions. Navi or non-navi is a personal choice. Happy hunting!
