Question 1st gen tweeter replacement

I want to know/see if anybody here replaced the dome tweeters with aftermarket ones. If you have, PLEASE post pictures. I am curious to know if the stock mesh casing will be able to fit back in place with aftermarket tweeters.

Does anyone also know how to get them out? I can't seem to get that mesh stuff off and I'm afraid to break it. My left one is dead and making annoying sounds only on some tracks of music. Maybe this thread should be a sticky if lots of people need help with this.

Extremely easy. I just read the service manual and it said pry it up very carefully then unplug the tweeter and the sunlight sensor and replace is the reversal. I hope this is what you guys are talking about.

If you guys are talking about the mid-ranges on the ceiling. All you have to do is to pop open the light cover, use a socket and unscrew the bolt in front of the light bulb then carefully wiggle it out. Then there're two screws holding the bracket, unscrew them and take the mid-ranges out.

Yup. I changed out my tweets ages ago. Just pop out the grill with finger or a screwdriver (the latter very carefully), disconnect the light sensor and voila. I just took the bracket off, found a piece of plasic to weddge in the back of the new tweet (shorter depth than OEM) and put the brack back on.

it'd be great to see pics of your tweeters!

as far as changing out the doors (5.25") they're easy. if you want to replace them with bigger speakers (6.5") you can do so but you'll need a baffle ring. i would personally buy 6.5" speakers for the door.

Not really. Just make sure the back of the speaker doesn't interfere with the window operation once it is installed, but there is a fair bit of room fo typically there isn't too much problem with that.

What brand name and model are you guys using for the tweeters by the dome light, and the ones on the dash? The ones by my dome light are very faint and should probably be replaced, I just don't want to buy some sweet tweets and find out it doesn't fit. Yes I said sweet tweets

The dome speakers are MIDRANGE not tweeters. They are 2 ohms, not 4.

Keep that in mind. Also, those two speakers hook up to the blue wiring harness. Its all part of the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and REALLY adds to the surround "effect" especially with classical music.

yes, these speaker should NOT be replaced and just added to be used, especially with an aftermarket deck. THis will ruin the stereo effect as they are intended to be used as a center channel and will be too loud if patched into the regular speaker wiring. I fyou have your original deck don't bother replacing them as you won't see any benefit due to the low power.
