has anyone done an engine swap?

Does the 3.2 cone out from the top, or get dropped out from under?
The reason I ask is because my input shaft seal (from the side of the trans into the diff) is starting to leak gear oil, and it runs down the car and burns on the exhaust, producing a wonderful smell...gag
The seal is less than $10, but I am assuming the time and effort would be, well, a lot...

I assume that it would be much easier yo leave the trans attatched, and pull it as a unit.
Tmnhs81, you should take pictures!

Yeah, take out both together. You can check all the contacts for the starter and alternator, too. My ring terminal on the alt cable was corroded pretty badly, and it was a pain to change it out with the motor in the car. Starter was horrible to change out, too. The suspension has to come out, so might as well tackle everything at once.

Watch out for the ABS hard lines.

I was planning to but its been pretty busy lately at work so I wasn't able to go the other shop to take some pics or even take a look at it. Got an update today. Engine is out and they were installing new timing belt and water pump on the "new" engine today.

you can drop it from the bottom if you unbolt the subframe with the engine sitting on it. But make sure you can lift the car high enough for the engine to slide out from underneath. Whether you remove it from the top or the bottom, you should always remove the transmission with the engine as one piece.
