I know on my 2.5 the Secret Weapon made a noticeable difference. When I converted it to a cold air it made it even better.

I got the dragon instead of the secret weapon because of it was less expensive and I could by a prefabricated ram air intake box for it instead of fabricating it myself. The ram intake adapteris very cool. It mounts in the front airdam of your front bumper and then the hose goes up to your air intake. Plus the air box on the bumper has another filter and a storm gaurd if it rains.

I bought the Dragon intake at www.partsandaccessories.com for 122.00 dollars and the ram air intake kit for 54.00 dollars. If you buy it and you have first generation TL you will see an opption for with TCCS or without TCCS. This is to distinguish if your TL is equipped with traction control or not.

It actually made more of a difference than I thought it would. I'm guessing maybe 5hp to the crank and couple to the wheels. The throttle response is much better. Oh and it sounds freaking awesome.

Does it 'hiss' when you idle? I know my Secret Intake does, and it's quite annoying.

Well I can't hear it on the inside but yeah it does. Any intake will since it's sucking a lot more air than stock. The growl when accelerating is awesome though.

How did you convert it to cold air? what does that mean. is it not already a cold air intake? do you have pics?
Whats the difference between the dragon intake and the secret weapon intake? Would it be better to get the Dragon intake with the cold air sheild and the ram air attachment? or just stick with the secret weapon intake?
Im such a n00b

The difference between the dragon and the secret weapon is that the secret weapon has two air flow chambers instead of one (like the dragon) There is a smaller diameter pipe inside the main air flow chamber and when air enters this smaller diameter pipe the velocity of the air increases because the volume of the pipe decreases, and the air in the larger chamber flows at a lower velocity and at the other end the two air flows meet and lower velocity air mass basically latches on to the kinetic energy of the high velocity air mass. And the other difference is about 110.00 dollars. And I don't know if ram air kit can be used with the secret weapon, if not I am sure it won't be long until they have a ram air kit for the secret weapon.

WOW!, put my Weapon R on tonight..... Sick.... Absolutely Sick! Install was a bitch because you have to custom mount the bracket. At idle its quiet, between 1500-3000 rpms its a light throaty sound, when flooring it as soon as it hits 4000 rpm and the VIS kicks in....WOW sounds amazing you can really tell the difference that VIS makes when you hear it, the sound almost doubles after 4000 rpm... Ill post pics and try to get a sound clip up!

The kit is technically a ram air. I removed my stock resonator and moved the filter down into the bumper with some more piping which made a bit of a difference in performance and sound. It now brings in colder air which is much better than the warm air inside the engine bay. The other guy explained the differences between the dragon and secret weapon really well.

I know it sounds a lot better... performance wise, I cant really judge speed, but the throttle response is ten times better. I know it sounds like a bunch of bs, but last night on completely dry pavement, I chirped the tires going into second... My car has NEVER done that before...I am very impressed with the difference it makes though, it certainly feels a lot faster, however a lot of the difference is all in your head! oh well definately worth the 180 bucks... would reccomend to all!

Good news for secret weapon

I origanally ordered the dragon intake seystem from weapon-R because you could not get the heat shield that allowed you to connect the ram air intake hose to I was quite pissed off about this so I called Weapon-R and talked directly to one of the engineers that worked on the design of the secret weapon and asked why there is not a heat shield for the secret weapon. He said that it is being developed as we speak and it will be out this fall. But we can still connect the ram air intake hose to the secret weapon intake, and when the heat shiel comes out for the secret there will be a quick connect fitting for it and he said that this direct cold ram air charge system for the secret weapon is going to be like nothing else in the industry. Go to www.weapo-r.com and check it out it is going to be kick ass

hey mblackmarr, i am looking into doing the ram air to my dragon intake. I was wondering if you have any pics of the ram air inlet on the front airdam! this would be a cheap and easy upgrade, but the only thing that i am worried about is the mounting of the inlet on the front airdam. thanks

Weapon-R RAM Air adapter. $80 with a rain guard and it hooks up directly onto tour intake filter. Might deter from the clean look that our cars have, though...

~Cheers~

this was my setup...

then i went to this

in this last photo where the filter sits... ill try to take a better pic, its about time i clean the filter... the bumper lense sits right in front of it... if it was removed, then it would be a perfect direct airflow straight into the filter... right now, the air comes in from the center and has obstacles to go through... i was thinking about buying a vent/scoop, cutting out a hole under the bumper lense, and making it look flush/finished... any ideas??? otherwise another option is to just remove the wheel lining and install a real scoop, but then you risk rocks and puddles...

I wouldnt remove the wheel lining, like you pointed out you risk rocks and puddles. Right now you've probably done the best you can with our setup. Removing the intake resonator box is the biggest restriction.

thats looks great man! i took my resonator box out too and have the short ram in, but i was wondering what the Weapon R Ram Air Inlet looks like mounted to the front bumper. The tube connecting the inlet to the filter runs through the hole and down where the resonator box was. I was just wondering how the ram air inlet sat bolted onto the bumper.

Cut short due to the awful weather. Oh well...

I DID manage to swim across the Columbia river delta, considered one of the most dangerous in the world (much to the dismay of my g/f and family)

So.. I got something accomplished.

Looks like it came off a Legend. They DO fit, so try and find one at a junkyard or an aftermarket bar meant for a Legend.

I'm going to buy a 1st gen RL bar and see if it fits
