RL Section Ramblings
In my Lexus, I'm at 2600 RPM's at 80 mph. Smooth sailing.
On a trip to Chicago, I averaged 26.2mpg going 75-85mph.
That's actually not a bad price at all Dallison.
I don't know what to do. Now I need to replace the sway bar link, the bushings didn't fix it.
I don't know what to get the wife if I were to sell the RL right now.

My car needs tires in the spring, trans fluid change, and will need the timing belt next year. So far it's been great, but I would rather roll that $1800 into something like the tsx.
Prepare for the uglyness!
A friend found me on Canibeat too

But anyways onto the topic at hand....
Haven't posted pics of this up yet but I was bored yesterday and picked up a lip that kindasorta fit the car. Slapped it on and here's the results after some heat, bending, and placing shit under. Honestly it only added .2 inches lower to the ground.... wasn't worth the 2 hours of fitting.... small thin piece just slips onto the bottom edge of the bumper, but that's it. Not to mention, it doesn't fit because it covers the bottom of the fog lights, and there's quite a bit of space between the bumper and the lip. The lip edges bulge alot, not fitting the clean lines of the car at all.
Mission: FAILED.

New Member-2004RL
Been poking around the various RL sites and wanted to join this one. Long time SAABnet member. I'm buying a family (75 year old owner) 2004RL black/black garaged, no accidents, all original with 45k miles next month so I've been reading up on maintenance/issues/etc. When I buy a used car, the first thing I do is baseline the car with all new fluids and filters. Car was well maintained by Acura dealership, but still..... Read enough postings that I'll only use OEM fluids/filters/pads, etc. Mixed postings about syn diff fluid, however. (I use Castrol syn oils on my other cars) The big question is the timing belt. Think I'll do a visual on the belt first when I get the car. Its the proverbial time not mileage thing. Postings say its approx. $1500, but I'll decide on that soon. Original owner only used premium gas, but I'll do the yearly Seafoam process for preventative maintenance. Youngest will finish college in 3 years so I couldn't afford anything newer and know these are great comfortable cars. Wife has neck issues and the Mazda minivan (for college moves) is not very comfortable on long trips. I know the owner's complete history on this car. I know about the poor MPG, but I'll be replacing a car that got 20 MPG so its status quo here.
Just wanted to do a quick intro.

Thanks for the welcome OLD_HATCH and KEN. Should be getting the car in approx. 2-3 weeks. When I do, I'll try to post some pictures. Car is original and will want to keep it mostly that way except for bulbs, etc.
My nephew clayed the car a few months back so it looks great. I'm very fortuneate to get a car with such low mileage with a known history so with help form this forum I'll take good care of it. I still do most of my own work. I no longer do the heavy R&R, however. Don't think I'll try the timing belt myself after reading the posts.
BTW, I get at least 200k miles out of all my cars so I'll be around here for a long time.

Have power again after Irene "visited" us.
I look forward to a long life with the RL. Their reputation and reliability are well known which is why I jumped on the chance to own one.
I found 2 links to OEM parts suppliers in here. Any strong preference. I'll be buying filters, etc.

Multiple Filters Listed online; which ones??
I'm trying to get setup for my newest member of the family (2004 RL) with various filters and noticed for example that Oil Filters have multiple PNs. Same was true for fuel, etc. How do I know which are the correct ones?

Just wanted to say that our '99 RL is gone now. Traded it in on a 2012 Mustang V6 Premium. Completely different car, tons of fun, and I can even manage 30+ MPG on the freeway. I'm not used to getting such good gas mileage.
Good luck with the new ride!
A couple strange sounds I've noticed... perhaps someone here can diagnose?
1. When driving on cold mornings, after the car has sufficiently warmed up, whenever i give slight throttle i hear a persistent tapping noise from under the hood on the passenger side. It's not the same sound that the ABS system sometimes makes. It's softer and quieter. Once i give more throttle than a certain point the noise stops.
2. Under brisk acceleration, something makes a quick "hiss" noise when the transmission grabs a new gear. is this normal? In all the other auto cars i've driven, none of them did this, or at least i didn't notice it.

kid spartan, I've always thought that when a car hisses, that's cool. It's a feature!
BTW, I'm shocked by how much worse my gas milage is than everyone else. For awhile there I was regularly getting 10-12 mpg, but lots of idling to warm up or cool down the car for a child. When I don't idle so, I get 18ish mpg. (speed limit = 45, photo enforced at 47.5 for most of my trip). Odd really, I never idle for more than 5 minutes or so, but my trips are often 10-25 minutes long.
