check engine light code- does anyone know what this means?

does anyone know what this means?

my check engine light was on so I went to Autozone and this is what they told me:

OBD code: 1298
Electric Load Dectector (ELD) Circuit
High Input

Probable causes:
1- poor electric connection
2- failed ELD

Either the Either the Electrical Load Detector (ELD) needs to be replaced, and/or there's a opening in the circuitry path between the PCM/ECM and ELD.

Year/Engine Size?

ELD Diagnostic Steps

Problem Verification:
1. Do the ECM/PCM Reset Procedure. (remove backup radio fuse for ~15 seconds)
2. Start the Engine.
3. Turn on headlights.

Q1. Does DTC P1298 appear?

NO -
1. Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at C256 (ELD) and ECM/PCM.
2. End of Diagnostics.

YES - Check for an open in the wire (GND line):
1. Turn the ignition switch and headlights OFF.
2. Disconnect the ELD 3P connector.
3. Check for continuity between body and round and ELD 3P connector terminal No. 1
4. Goto Q2.

Q2. Is there continuity?

NO -
1. Repair open in the wire between ELD connector and G402.
2. End of Diagnostics.

YES - Check for an open in the wire (EL line):
1. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector A (32P).
2. Check for continuity between the ELD 3P connector terminal No. 2 and ECM/PCM connector terminal A30.
3. Goto Q3.

Q3. Is there continuity?

NO -
1. Repair open in the wire between the ELD connector and ECM/PCM.
2. End of Diagnostics.

YES - Check for a malfunction in the ELD:
1. Reconnect the ELD connector and ECM/PCM connector A (32P).
2. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
3. While measuring the voltage between the ECM/PCM connector terminals A30 and B20, turn the headlights on (low beam).

Q4. Does the voltage drop?

NO -
1. Replace ELD.
2. End of Diagnostics.

YES -
1. Substitute for a known-good PCM/PCM and recheck. If symptoms goes away replace the original ECM/PCM.
2. End of Diagnostics.

ASCII Art Fun

ELD 3P Connector (C256). This should plug into the ELD, which is located in the fuse box in the engine compartment.

Probably just a fluke (loose connections, etc). I say don't worry about it. If the light comes on, go through the troubleshooting procedures above.

Hi,

Regarding the ELD 3P connector in the fuse box, is pin 1 or pin 3 the pin closest to the firewall?

I wasn't sure what the double line above the "1" indicated.

Thanks.
