End of the TLX?
End of the TLX?
I was talking to a local sales manager today as I was considering a new RDX to replace my TLX and lamenting Acura not wanting to make hybrids. He told me that had a meeting this week about the future vehicles and were told they are still 'all-in' on bringing EVs and ICEs with no plans for the hybrid and even the new ADX may be an EV. He said the TLX was being phased out and the Integra was going to be the only sedan in the lineup.

i am not saying he is wrong but never trust dealers. We know more than them. My salesman works for Acura for more than 2 decades and he is very well informed. When I asked him last time about ADX. His answer was: "I have no clue, all i know is it will be a smaller SUV than RDX".
I would not be surprised if the TLX as we know it dies. The current version just doesn't make business sense given that the total units sold (since Acura is NA only) is relatively tiny. Of course, they could opt to keep the TLX name and either use it for an EV, or return it to its roots and base it heavily off of the Accord to reduce costs. The latter would make more sense, which means it probably won't happen.
Most likely the plan two years ago was to merge the TLX and RLX platforms into an EV and call it an Acura Legend.
If I were Acura, given plummeting EV sales, I would pivot and launch the EV as the Legend, and do a second 26 MMR of the TLX, along the lines of 25 MDX, and keep it around until EV's actually get consumer interest.

I'm all about EV's, but they need to go through the hybrid phase first. They had them at one point and were the best Acura's you could get in those models back then! MDX/RLX. Always early to a party...lol...
But once Acura doesn't share Honda chassis any longer, except Integra, they can't have hybrids without fully redoing them. Unlike the shared toyota/lexus stuff....
Just some food....
Exactly. EV’s are not for travel. Or at least I wouldn’t want to travel with one lol I want one for around town use. And they are getting less expensive, so I’m excited about getting something cool. And they are fast as… You know what…
otherwise, I concur with you on every other point lol

I keep lurking around here because I can't get over how good the Type-S looks, but I lean further toward an EV as a daily every day now. I took a new Model 3 Performance for an overnight test drive this past Friday night and now my TL and '24 MDX feel like oxcarts. The cost of gas I put into the TL on a monthly basis covers 90% of what the note on a new Model 3 would be. It's not a track car, but you can't argue with a 2.9 second 0-60. That is a lot of fun.

So funny! Last week, I went with a friend for fun to test drive the new Cyber truck. I ended up brining a Model3 LR for over night test drive. i won't lie it's very impressive in terms of tech, quickness and simplicity. I never thought in my life I will like EV but i can say I was wrong. It's very appealing! Tesla has done a great job. I liked it more than Taycan in terms of tech and simplicity! In Canada, the LR qualifies for the full grant. Tesla rep quoted me $715/month taxes inc. Which is very good considering we pay about 1.65-1.75/L for gas.
Exactly my thoughts. I'm spending anywhere between $550-600/month on fuel, and with my overnight charging cost as low as 2.8c/kWh I am finding it difficult not to lean in this direction. Even the LR AWD model is absurdly quick and will outrun Type-S for much less money.
It's very difficult to beat EVs in terms of quickness and cost.
My cousin has M3LR and he spends on average CAD$30/month on electricity. He does 18-20K KM a year. I am thinking

I have a 2015 TLX with 80K miles, love it, and a compact car that is old, just for running around town. I plan to buy an EV for running around town, and I don't want to pay a lot for it. I would like a dealership network, so will look at Chevy, Mach e, VW ID4, and Huyndai. I like the idea of the low end Chevy Equinox coming this fall, supposedly starting at 35K. I can wait another year.
To replace the TLX, I want a hybrid to save money on gas. It will be the vehicle for long trips, I just came back from West Yellowstone MT, put 3,800 miles on the car on that road trip. I want to go to an SUV this time, looking at Toyota Crown, Highlander and Venza. Maybe a CRV hybrid.
The Acura EV is way too expensive for a "run around town" car, and I don't want to take trips in it due to inadequate range and charging time. My perception is that Acura is screwing up their model lineup, and is out of step with the consuming public.

I figured at an almost $20k discount it would be a more attractive EV buy.
Speaking of I saw a ZDX on the road for the second time yesterday, looks good on the road in a odd way. But definitely not for me.
Really? Even with the almost $20k total discount dealers and Acura combined are offering to move those lawn ornaments off dealer lots/floorplans?

Welp, IKeda is out for VP and head of design so who knows what is about to be produced for the market moving forward. The EV concept looks like a Buick so my expectations are in the toilet.
