Oil of choice

What's everybody's oil of choice here, and what is your changing interval. I think I'm going to use Mobil 1 5W-30 and change it every 3,000-4,000 miles.

Agreed!

For me, Mobil 1 10w-30, every 5,000 miles.

Why are you changing your oil so often? Even for regular oil, it's 3 months or 3,000 miles. For Sythenic, it's double that I think. Keeping the oil clean is good for the engine but is that a lil excessive? Mobile 1 is not exactly cheap either.

Since my car sucks up a quart of oil every thousand miles I use standard Castro GTX 5w-30 in winter and 10w-30 in summer. Hopefully I will get my rings fixed soon.

I used Mobil 1 - 5W30 (the same grade that's specified in the owner's manual). I change it twice a year. I do about 11000 miles/per year, so once in the fall, and once in the spring. I think that oil is expensive as it is, and since it's synthetic there's no need to go overboard with changing it too much. If I were to change it every 3000 miles, I'd get regular oil.

I use mobile 1 synthetic 5w-30 and change it twice a year, which is only about every 1500 miles for me. It sure is nice to put miles on a company vehicle instead of your own.

I just bought a case of mobil 1 5W-30 today. It was like $30.00 for 6 quarts. It seems soo expensive when I look at the regular mobil oil and those were going for 12.96 for 12 quarts. Makes me wonder if it would be better to just get reguler mobil oil and change it every 2,500 miles instead of geting mobil 1 and changing it every 4,000 miles?

Using synthetic motor oil is more than just an issue of greater $$$ per quart; it's also about the level of protection you get for that extra money spent. I run my engines extremely hard (some say I abuse them), but what else is a car for! :P

I have yet to own an engine that lasted less than 175,000 miles when using synthetic oil. My '87 Camaro was still running strong at 230,000 miles when I got rid of it 2 years ago. Synthetic oil can handle the heat levels that destroy conventional oil. To me, the price of Mobil 1 was defitintely worth it. I've had 2 engine that should have seized due to lack of coolant, but didn't, largely in part to the synthetic oil. Those instances, themselves have already paid for a life-time of synthetic use.

I change oil about every 5,000 miles, but know that I could go over 7,000 miles.

While others may disagree with me, I'm convinced!

BTW: I get Mobil 1 from WalMart and it's about $25.00 per case of 6 quarts. Wait until its on sale, then buy several cases. I've gotten it as low as $22.00 per case.

oil

I use 5w 30 approved SAE oil. 3 months 3k.

Never had engine trouble with my cars.

I feel that with the stop and go driving that I do, oil cets contaminated way before it breaks down.
