Engine Swap HELP!

im going to start saving for an engine swap just because the f23 just cant pull my heavy 3000lb car the way i want it to.

so...engine swap(im not turboing the f23)

so i was wondering wat engine would mount with my 2.3 cl

i kno the h22a would fit and i like the 200hp base. price

heres my second option which im not sure will mount with my car(im pretty sure though) price

so my question...will the extra 15hp be worth the 500 more...and which engine is easier/cheaper/safer to tune?

please dont respond by saying turboing or nitrous because im completely against non-naturally aspirated high compression engines

so which engine is better bang for the buck
and if anyone else knows of a better swap lemme know...

thanks

The F20B is a good engine and one guy had it but there is zero aftermarket for the engine. GO with the H22

Okay, obviously I'm new to this site so I need to be schooled on this current conversation. Firstly, I own a 97' 2.2 CL and I'm wondering is it necessary to completely swap a whole engine. Can you not get enough bang with a larger diameter exhaust, headers, cold air intake, and getting your head polished?

Sorry bro but the weight of the CL pretty much neutralizes all that it is pretty much a waste of money. It is better than stock of course but if you are looking for real power you need turbo or a DOHC engine swap..preferably H22

j32 is way to much work, hit a h22 and before u put it in and since the winter is coming up rip the motor apart like me and upgrade everything, springs, valves, sleeves piston rods, studs everything then throw a t-bo kit on it i went with the Turbo-kits.com turbonetics and after this winter ill be able to run very high boost and smoke the j32 motor. its very easy to put the h in ur car i did it in my home garage.

just buy the h22 head and throw it on your f23 block...damnit i want to see some do this in a CL instead of just civic hatches.

i thought the parts were interchangeable between the motors?
Also, is it possible to put an H22 head on an F23 block? if it is it seems more feasible than a complete swap

love the avatar by the way lol

arent F20B's older engines. go with the H22 if you want or the JDM DOHC F22B.

don't you have to do something about the OBD2? or something like that. . . the swap looks simple but the whole wiring seems complicating -_-''

With the extra 15hp the F20b gives over the H22a, it loses 15lb-ft in torque. I think stock for stock in a CL, the H22a would give better results simply because the added torque is what you need to pull with the heavy car. If you are also planning on doing further modding to the new engine, it has already been stated in this post that the H22 has way more for aftermarket availabilities.

Labor should run you about 800-1000. Its not that much considering the person does the whole job right. Its easy just dropping the engine but then you need to succesfully convert to OBD1. Depending on the ECU you will be running you might need a lil more work. If you are planning on running the P13 then you will be required to hook up your EGR. EGR is a pain at least it was for me. If you run the P29 then you wont have to connect your EGR. make sure you bypas the IAB selenoid by directly connecting the vacuum port the secondary manifold.
