Check engine light
Check engine light
I know it have been posted and I know that I can find out the code with the pin but I still don't know how to do it or find it. Anyways my 2.2 auto runs fine I was wondering since I don't have a acura dealer near home can I just take the car to a honda dealer??? Also can the check engine light reflect of a need of a oil change? When I saw the engine light come on, a hour later I decided to change my oil. I just took the negative battery out so I'm just crossing my fingers.
I'll try that thanks man. You think I can take it to a honda dealer to fix it? Or I need to go to a acura dealer. Honda should know how to do it rite? Since the engine is made by honda.

The accuracy is the same as what the techs at the dealer use. The output is the only difference.
Does your speedometer work?
This is the first mention of the ABS light, why are you listing a code for it now?

The speedometer work. Not sure if the abs is a factor. While driving the check engine light is on but not the abs. When I jumper out the connecter the abs blink once in the beginning but not again even when the cycle repeats only the engine light cycle repeats. So I'm guessing the abs is fine rite??? Because the abs light is not on when driving. Thanks.
If the speedo works. Reset the ecu.
Turn the car off.
Write down the radio code (if head unit is stock)
Pull the 7.5 A Radio Backup fuse out from under the hood.
Replace fuse.
Light should be gone next time you start it.

I reset it BUT everytime I do it a day later it comes rite back on. What does Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction mean? Do I have to replace something? I must of reset this damn car like 10 times and everytime a day later it comes rite back UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the speedo works the sensor should be OK.
Are you sure its 17?
The code youre telling us doesnt match symptoms.
This procedure is straight out of the OEM manual by the way. Dont think I'm just guessing on this.

Same thing happened to me but i dont know if your situation is the same as mine. A couple of months ago, the check engine light came on in my car while i was just driving. I wasnt driving any different then i usually do but the light just kept coming on. I tried just resetting the ECU, but that didnt do alot except just get rid of the CEL for a couple of hours. I finally got sick of it and took it to a honda-tech near my house. Wasnt a dealer, but he was extra nice and gave me a phat discount.
For my car, it was the EGR valve. The tech said there was a lot of carbon build up in there and I needed it to get it cleaned. The CEL would come on because the sensors would tell our ECU that there wasnt enough oxygen flowing through. After I got that cleaned, CEL never came on again and it still hasnt come back on. If your car is still under warranty, take it to the dealer and tell them to check the EGR valve. If your warranty expired, look for a shop that specializes in Honda/Acura motors.
The place I went to was called Vtec Shop.
Sounds pretty ricey, but that shop had like 4 engine swaps going at once. Saw a 2001 SI with a RSX type-s engine. And some guy was picking up his 97 accord with a H22 in it. These guys knew what they were doing and got the valve cleaned for like 70 bucks.
P.S. I think the ABS light comes on once when we turn on our cars anyways, so i doubt there is something wrong with the ABS. Was your parking brake engaged when you were checking the codes? that might be it

Yeah may parking break was on. I don't have warrenty but I did go to a honda dealer and the service guy said it will cash 89.00 JUST to find out what is wrong. That is too much so I just left. How hard is it to clean the EGR valve?? Thanks.
The EGR code is 80 or 12. Check it again and see if it matches 80 or 12 and not 17.
Heres a write up I did on the EGR system:

OK this is what happen. The cel pulses (I'm guessing it a long one) than blink 8 times or 7. So, it's 17 rite? Long is the first digit and the short blink is the tens rite? You are maybe rite it might be 80. What do I do to fix it? I got my headers, exhaust and intake install awhile ago. Can it be that? OOOORRRRRR can it be my factory alarm??? How much will it cash to fix it?

and since your in the same boat as me in terms of warranty, try to find a mechanic that specializes in honda/acura motors other than the dealerships. Dealerships rip you off. The guy that I went to charged me a buck to look at the problem with a CEL gauge.
