Best Enclosure
Hey guys, I'm about to put my system in this weekend and i can't make up my mind on what type of box to use.
I've got 2 12" alpine Type S subs with 1000 watt Alpine amp...
Should i build my own, Should i go banpass, Sealed box? Ported?
What's worked best for all of you?
P.S: i want the biggest BOOOOM....

okay so if i understand correctly, youre only putting the magnets outside of the box if you want a lot of bass..and the magnets are closest to the back seat? im actually gonna try that.
i like clarity as well but i also like bass. my alpine type r's are good for me as far as clarity but i like the hit of the subs.
im running some jl w1s with soundstream 1000 watt amp. speakers are in a sealed box. how much of a difference would it make if i went with that setup?
I have been installing car audio for 20 plus years and in my experience a sealed box with subs mounted in the box the normal way not with the magnets on the outside and the box sitting with the subs firing back towards the back bumper will give you deep hard hitting bass. If you face the box forward or up toward to deck you will get alot of rattles and cancellation, sounds like shit. I have two kicker L7 10's with a kicker zx1500.1 amp and it hurts at high volumes. Plus the box is very small. i still have 75% of my trunk space left. Sorry about my rant but had to add my

sealed=clarity/quality of sound
ported=bass(spl)

if our cars could fit them id get 2 15's. im from the hood so i like the bass that wakes up my ancestors. but honestly if all you want is bass then just get whatever subs and box you want and turn up the bass.
typically sealed boxes are for sql (sound quality) while ported are for spl (loudness)
however, some subs just perform better in ported boxes and were designed for them, while others for sealed. in a well ported box, you can gain +3db or more of output, which essentially means you're doubling the power of your amplifier. It's quite a gain, but usually at the expensive of accuracy...and more 'boomy' bass. Sealed boxes also tend to be able to reach lower frequencies better than ported, but there are exceptions. I'm personally more of a sealed guy myself, as I'm not really into earth shattering bass, but rather the most accurate, tight bass that thumps but also blends in with the treble, not overpowers it. It all depends on your goals on which box you want to get.

i flipped my subs so my magnets are outside and i have a sealed box. OMFG that shit is WAYYYYY too much. but after about an hour of fine tuning on my d3 i got it to a level i want it.
shit hits pretty hard. but now it just makes me want to customize my trunk
