Rattle in the headliner

I've had a rattle in the car that is getting worse, and finally found where it is. It's in the headliner, just behind the sunroof, just behind the rear seats. If you tap the headliner you can hear the metallic rattle. Going to the dealer next week. Anyone have something similar?

Yes! I thought it may have been the rear seat latches.
Will check the sunroof area.
Thanks!

Headliner? Could you please explain? What part is that? I have a rattle but thought it was my plastic snow brushes doing that. Now not sure.

I thought so as well, but I put both seats down and drove around, rattle was still there. So I don't think that is it. It makes sense that it would be.

I went to the Acura dealership, and the ZDX in the showroom had the same rattle if I tapped the headliner behind the sunroof. So, either that car also has my rattle when driving, or that area is NOT the source of my rattle after all. Unsure. Car is going into Acura Service on Monday to have this looked at.

I believe the recent Motortend article sums it up. "Acura’s first EV is nothing like an Acura, because it isn’t an Acura" So basically, you're in a Chevrolet Blazer EV with a quasi-Acura themed shell. Oof...

It may matter to you or MT, not to us owners. We know what we get into. While you are laughing there, I enjoy driving the car in Zen mode, super cruising in comfort, and letting the outside world fade away. When I need power, the car feels like a V8, easily blows any other non-NSX Acuras away.

I understand people like how Acura drives in certain ways, but is the obsession necessary? ZDX can take a hussle just fine. The limitation is the tires, not the chassis nor the steering.

I suppose the question is; if you don’t care that it’s not an Acura, why not buy the more luxurious but cheaper Lyriq, or any number of other EVs?

You are wrong, to me it IS an Acura. In a different flavor that makes sense. Otherwise, why would I buy it?

Perhaps we can continue the Acura Lyriq/Chevy ZDX discussion on my long-term thread.

Back to the OG topic, on my car there is no metallic noise coming from the headliner area behind the pano roof. But if I tap along the sides, I can hear something inside vibrating with the headliner. Pretty sure your dealership can take care of the issue by padding the area.

If it doesn't drive like an Acura, as you say, and the interior isn't Acura either, then what about it makes it an Acura to you?

Good question. What does Acura mean for you? To me, it is value first and foremost, followed by ease of use, sharper driving dynamics than a Honda, good audio system, and most of the time with above-average interior/storage space in mind.

ZDX is not the best product in Acura history, but it ticks all my boxes, except for the half-filled last one.

True Hopefully the dealership gets your rattle sorted out.

The headliner is the covering on the inner side of the roof.

Older Acura, but maybe the discussion at Headliner rattle will be of help.

Don't think it is the headliner. Took a service tech for a 15 minute ride and IT WAS DEAD SILENT. Ugh. Rattle was back the next day. But I'm now wondering if the rattle is in the rear seats, possibly in how they are latched in the upright position. I'm going to wrap the metal with electrical tape, as such, and see what happens. I'm also hoping the rattle gets worse so I can take it back in with better luck.

But at this point I think it is the back seats, in some way, causing the noise.

My rattle is slowly getting back to the level it was before the tech guy rode in the car. Looks like it is not a seat belt, a loose headrest nor the metal clasps (see photo above with the electrical tape). But I am still thinking it is the back seats, in some way. If the rattle stays somewhat consistent will try again but have the tech sit in front seat first and hope we can hear the noise, then have him move to back seat.

My ZDX A-Spec is at the dealership for a back rattle noise issue. They are looking into it at this moment, but it looked like it is the headliner part loose behind the moonroof. We will see what they find out.

Please keep us posted. My car was rattle-free at lunch, so my noise is not consistent enough to warrant another service visit.

In my case it was a loose clip in the headliner. They taped up the clip and secured the headliner. No more rattle!

Thank you all for the advice.

I think I found where most the rattle is coming from. This section here, some decorative plastic trim, passenger front seat belt, was loose. I pushed the decorative trim piece back into place. Near all the noise is gone. What is left might be pieces of that slamming against the side of the interior.

Mine is going in Monday and they are looking at that very spot as well. My headliner is definitely loose along its back edge. Hoping...
