Ok so I finally settled with the shop that fucked up my car today and I want you guys to know this: Do not ever!!!! go to Master Tune on 32nd. Not all but most of my experience with them has been a giant pain in the ass, tons of screw ups and even though the people are really nice it is difficult to get anywhere with them once you've already paid.

Just a heads up.

Hello cdn_rider : I have a friend with a 2003 TL with a bad transmission. The car has only 140K, and Silverhill wants close to $10000 to replace it. They told him his serial numbers were outside fo the recall range. Do you (or anyone in from the Calgary TL'ers) have a recommendation where to get it fixed, and the approximate cost ? I found a used transmission from an online JDM supplier for 1300.

Silver hill is retarded if they think they can charge more for a transmission than the car is worth.

IMO the whole 2nd gen CL/TL automatic transmission is garbage, replacing it won't fix the problem because it will happen again.

A (so far) permanent fix for it can be found by following this link or to bring the cost down you can find a transmission at this link

And as for getting the labour done, the dealership charges a stupid amount of money to do it, but they have the most experience replacing them (especially Silverhill) or you can go to a place called Mister Transmission. They are a couple blocks down from Silverhill and have been really good to me. If you go to Mister Transmission, talk to Chris and he will make sure that your on the same page as for what he thinks you should do.

Good Luck

Nersh: Thanks for the information. I will pass the links on. 10K is worth more than the car, so he refuses to pay that. He is mad because the car is in mint condition, and believes his tranny should have been covered by the recall. It would have been covered if he was in the US due to a class action lawsuit. He said something went wrong with the computer so 3rd didn't disengage when it shifted to 4th, and destroyed the 3rd gear. It's too bad the Canadian consumer doesn't get the same extended warrantee as the US consumer.

I completely agree with the lame-ness that we weren't covered as well. My dad has an 02 TL and is on his 3rd tranny. I would also talk to Chris about maybe rebuilding the tranny, he should be able to do that and again that would be cheaper.

Hey Calgary,

I'm wondering if anybody has done any Mods on an '04 TL (or equivelant) that could give me a hand with headlight clearing and side marker tinting. Anybody here done these mods themselves? or if you outsourced them who/where did you go?

There's a guy on here that does custom headlights, if you want to look in to it: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/custom-headlights-jnc-part-iii-796033/

sorry guys i forgot about this thread. i went to mister transmission and it cost 3500. still too much IMO but like i said they (apparently) replaced the broken parts with better parts as they are fully aware of the TL issue and how to fix it.

on another note, no pics of the car but pics of m deck and headrests...

That price seems a bit closer to home but I agree thats still a lot of cash.
here is some good reading about this issue link you can really get a better understanding of why they fail from some of the people in there.

again maybe if you use the site car-part.com you can find the transmission for cheap. Doing just a swap is way less labour intensive than a rebuild.

I like the headrests, if you ever decide you want to get rid of them I will gladly take them from you lol.

dont know where to get the dvd, probably the dealer. yes get a block heater unless youre parking in the garage all the time everywhere you go. how long did it taske to get the car and if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay all in for it? was it worth it to bring it in over buying canadian?

I've been checking on ebay (because I want to upgrade mine) and no one really sells them there. If you wanna buy new, Navteq sells them from their website: http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...gationMenu=YES

Sometimes they have sales on the discs

Well i flew down and drove it back myself i ended up payin a total of 26,000, it was like a 16 hour drive, and it has like 35000 Miles so i think i got a pretty good deal the car was in wiked condition to, and how much is a block heater on average?

Definitely get a block heater, even if you park in a garage. For these -30/-25 days its definitely needed. I plug my car in if its below -15 usually.

Their super cheap, maybe $50-100.

Or just go buy a battery blanket from Canadian tire. So it keeps ur battery warm (usually the #1 cause of a car not starting).

Does anyone know someone who owns a Auto shop?
I am currently in grade 11, in high school. In Physics/Chem all that good stuff.
I am thinking of becoming a Auto Service Technician apprentice after High School and then getting that certificate.

My Highschool has the RAP program which means I can go do hours at a shop and get them to sign a sheet with how many hours I had, then it goes towards the apprenticeship hours.
I already have a job, so this would be something that I would do once or twice a week. Even if its the shitty jobs.

Let me know if you know someone... Thanks.

I'm finally back! Ended up having to go to Vietnam as well - and was busy playing catchup with all my personal errands since I've been back and couldn't get on the board. Oh and installing my 10" Pioneer Champ sub w/Kicker DX 500.1 Amp and a 1F Capacitor

Oh really haha. You must have seen my car.. I'm the only RSX Type S in town. I have seen a bright/light silver once but I think he lives in hazar or standard. I'm a darkey grey. A-Spec.

We should go for a little cruise to calgary one time and meet up with a few of the calgarians. Atleast then I would have company to calgary.
