water spots

Any good ways to get rid of water spots? I need to get rid of a few before the Zaino treatment begins. Thx

Have you clay bar'ed the car? You got black; you gotta do it. This is the best way to start and get rid of the water spots.

If you are committing to Zayno, then you should do the whole routine.

Clay bar should get waterspots off....also, as an alternative you could use white vinegar....50/50 mix with water first, and then full strength....should get them off.....

Got to really - remember, a "water spot" is the mineral deposit actually digging into the surface. So, you gotta get to the paint to get the minerals carried away. The vineagar solution works really well and is CHEAP! Then just apply Z2 back over it when you get 'em all.

I was never able to get the Water Spots I have off.

Tried everything.

They dug too deep too fast.

Hopefully Z5 will hide them a lil bit when I put my Zaino coat on soon.

If a clay bar doesnt work. Then vinegar wont either.

The water spots have etchec into your paint... you are no longer seeing the water minerals... you are seeing scratches in your paint.

You can try 3M Perfect-It Hand Glaze #39009

If that doesnt work... then nothing will.

Your best bet then is to try to "hide" them... rather then get rid of them.

Use Z5 or anything that says it will cover up scratches/swirls.

Just get 5% distilled grocery store quality white vinegar.

Today i gave my baby a dawn wash, claying, vinegar wash, z-wash... and then the Z treatment. She looks a lil better.

But yes... your stuck with the water spots. If ya ask me... dont bother with the 3M shit.. cuz if your spots are as bad as mine (and it sounds like they are) that shit wont help.

your only choice is too live with it... or take it to a detailer and see if they can buff them out with a machine and some strong cutting shit.

let us know...

oh but yea... if you wanna waste your time... or get a workout with the 3M stuff... its not too expensive... its a black bottle with a red/yellow label.

go to your local NAPA store and ask for it... they should have it in the back somewhere. 3M Part #39009

It sounds like your need an expert detailer. Once the "easy" stuff doesn't work (the vinegar, polish, clay, etc), it is time for a good detailer.

I once left my Maxima on the street next to some sprinkler with some of the hardest water in the world. The water spots on the spoiler got a full buff-down at a professional shop to get rid of the stuff.

I first tried the solutions/fixes mentioned above (with minor effect), and it looked like it was "inside" the paint!

Good luck

Ok well i tried the white viniger thing and that didnt do anything
Does anyone have any other suggestions. IF that 3m thing doesnt work that is.. is my only solution to get the entire panel repainted? Isnt there some kind of special detailer that can buff out those water marks. If so anyone have any ideao what it would cost or what they are using that is different from what we use? Thanks alot for yyour time.

A professional detailer, if he is really good, will attend classes constantly. They know the latest tricks, products, and solutions to common and not-so-common paint problems.

If you can find a "well recommended" detailer in your area, they can probably "buff-out" the water spots (or some other technique [I don't what they do]).

The guy I know in So. Cal, has a paint depth measuring gauge that costs more that a thousand bucks! He can tell how much paint needs to be removed before the UV properties of the clear coat are compromised. I don't know if he will buff it out, but the guy I know lives, breaths, and talks detailing.

If it CAN be fixed, find out from an expert, not some BOZO that thinks they are a detailer just 'cause they put a sign on a truck or building. Get some references *and* check out the work

That's all I know...

Does anyone know if the vinegar is harmful to the clear coat becuase it looks like it ate away on alot of my clear coat. i tried using the clay bar, waxin, polishing and it still looks ike the part that i washed with viniger has lost alot of its shine .

It is very weak stuff. But I guess any acid would be harmful if left long enough...

Your only supposed to leave it on for like 30-40 seconds.

Your probably seeing your car without any of the waxes and shit on it and thinking the clear coat is gone.

I really doubt you hurt it.

Vinegar is prolly no more acidic then the water in the air.

Vinegar wash does not hurt the clearcoat. If you want to try more aggressive methods you can try the 3M products. Least aggressive (Perfect It Swirl Mark Remover Glaze for Dark Colored Cars), more aggressive (Perfect It II Fine Cut), more aggressive (Finesse It). If all this doesn't work, take it to a detailer who can get the grinder out. 3M products are about $8-10 per bottle; vinegar is vinegar (pay attention in chemistry next time) and good Luck!
