Paging ExcelDetail and Knowledgeable Acurazine Members

Hey guys,

Weather has been terrible here in Toronto, recently I haven’t had a chance to wash or wax my PWP, today while using some quick wax detailer after a quick wash, I noticed some pretty heavy scratches in the driver side front quarter panel. My suspicion is it was either a deliberate attack, or it could have been due to the brush that is used to clean windows during snow..but I NEVER use that brush directly on paint surface, (I wipe it off by hand) so I am pretty stumped on what could have caused it. I know the scratches are pretty deep and will not disappear just trying to make it look better!

Any advice on how I could remove these scratches?
Will I need to buy a PC or UDM to get them out?
Any off the shelf products I can use?
Any advice or input is greatly appreciated

It’s very hard to bounce the light just right of PWP but here are some pictures;

I am going to try to post some better pictures

OUCH!!
Everything but the deep stuff will come out, but Im sure you knew that. A UDM would be a good friend for this project, and even a better friend for the remainder.......You can try OTC scratch removers, like Mothers, or Megs, but its really rather limited what you can do with those.....
Quixx might be another good option......

HOLY CRAP!! I feel sick to my stomach now! ha..ha..! Sorry Bro those look terrible.

The lighter portions of the scratches will most likely buff out with a polishing compound and the PC or UDM. The deeper scratches look to me like they haven't gone through the base coat. If that is the case I would recommend that you buy a clear cote touch up pen from your dealership or auto supply store and fill in the scratch with Clear. Then use the Lanka, or Quixx system or use some 2000 grit wet sand paper and gently smooth out the blob until it is smooth with the rest of the paint. This method will also remove the other lighter scratches as well.

Check out this post for further advice on scratch removal and wet sanding...

I have tried OTC products such as Mequires Scratch X, etc, with very poor results, the scratches have failed the finger nail test as probably guessed (so there quite deep). My question is ExcelDetail have you tried Quixx? does it acutely work as described on the website? Is it money well spent?

Quixx would help, but you would still have those deep ones sticking out like a sore thumb......Your best bet especially if you have considered paying a deductible and having someone do it for you is to follow Conans advice and fill and wet sand.......But.........you would need a UDM to compete that task. (Which would be money well spent for both cars!!)

I used Quixx on the Honda Pilot and it worked well on the lighter scratches. On the deeper ones (they were down to the black on the bumper), I used Honda Touch Up Paint + Clear Coat, then wetsanded and followed up with Quixx. The deeper scratches aren't great looking, but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. If you have the time & patience to dedicate to fixing it, it's do-able with the various methods reccomended above (UDM primarily).

Okay guys, here's some updates as promised, sorry for the crappy photo’s in advance,

I am extremely pleased with the results, the scratch marks are still there, but not noticeable as much, I layered the touch up pen, wet sanded with the Quixx kit + polish. Furthermore I polished with Mequires #9, with the PC, these were the results;

Mind you these were extremly deep scartches, I knew I wasn't going to get them out, but for $20 it was well worth the improvement.

No I sold the last one a month or so ago......Hard to sell them at MSRP or 10% under when WalMart sells them for 25% less. So I gave the import distributor a piece of my mind and left it at that......

The scratches’ are hardly even noticeable, the light + flash help magnify the scratch marks, under natural lighting conditions it’s hardly even noticeable, re-painting would be a serious waste of money.
