LSP question/advice

I've been using Zaino (Z5 & Z2) for almost five years (discovered from http://www.acuramdx.org) and I think I want to try some other products that are on the market.

This will be for a 2003 MBP Acura MDX and a 2007 WDP Acura TL plus other cars I do for family. All cars will be polished with Menzerna IP/FP and/or FPII before applying any LSP.

Currently, I'm looking at the following:

* Optimum Opti-Seal
* Ultima Paint Guard Pro
* Four Start UPP

Has anyone had experience b/t all three or two out of three? I like how the UPGP looks from the pics ive seen (it looks so darn wet) but the $$$ is pretty steep. That alone has me leaning towars the Optimum Opti-Seal. I need to do a bit more research on the FS UPP before I make my decision...

I dont know why i'm posting this - I guess just to think out loud and to see if anyone else has been in a similar position. Maybe I should just follow my own advice and buy the opti-seal from Excel and go from there.

I have the Ultima PGP and well I'm not too impressed with it. It will be my "use it up" sealant. I have not yet tried the 4 star UPP and doubt I will because they make the Ultima PGP and they are probably very similiar products. I am guessing but I think the Ultima with Polycharger in it may be the only difference between it and UPP? I guess if you wanted to try them go for the UPP it's much more reasonably priced. I have put 2 coats of Ultima on a black car and 3 coats on my silver ASM TL because I have read others say 3 coats is the magic number but so far I think it's "Blah" the durability is good but the shine is no where near as good as Wolfgangs Deep GLoss Paint Sealant nor is it as slick as the WDGPS. Just my opinion. Good Luck and keep us posted on what products you choose and your reviews of them.

Thanks for the feedback on UPGP. I'll keep you all updates but I think i'm leaning towards the opti-seal but may stick with Zaino Z5/Z2 and add in Z8.

I'll also look into the DPGS.

The Lexus is definitely a charcoal color. I'm leaning toward Four Star UPP or Meguirars NXT 2.0 for my spring detail.

You might as well say "I'm leaning toward a bar of gold or a bucket of crap"

FSUPP...No question. NXT gets many complaints regarding application and is notorious for its short life on the paint.

UPP and Nattys does a great job of bringing out the wetness. That's a carbon gray...

I ordered more Z2/Z5 the other day (I like the look) but I added Z8 this time to see what that adds to the mix.

I guess it depends on the severity of whatever it is your trying to accomplish? The Optimum Polish is a terrific polish for very light swirls, and paint that just needs all around brightening. The Compound for all of the above, but to a more serious degree or two......Hyper Compound, you hope to never have to go there, but if you do, this is your go to when all else fails. You will need additional follow up with a lighter polish, as this will mar paint.
Then if you just need to apply a LSP, and want to remove previosly applied protectants go with just a paint cleaner like the Danase Pure Polish, or One Grand Special Touch.

You're absolutely right about the number of products available on the market. And basically, it comes down to personal choices. As I've said in previous posts about product selection, if you're extremely satisfied with the results and feel good about the product(s) you use, then by all means continue to do so.

Sorry for the noobish ?'s, but...

Are all LSP's applied by hand, or can they be used with an UDM?

Can the FSUPP and/or Optimum Opti-Seal be used in conjunction with Danase Wet Glaze to get better results?

Is there any difference in application or results between FSUPP in spray or non-spray form?

You can apply LSPs by machine saving time and effort, I do at times, but prefer hand application. I haven't tried it yet, but I believe Patrick (aka Exceldetail) mentioned Danase WG can be used under or over a sealant and results are more evident on dark colors. UPP is a creamy lotion and applied with a foam applicator and buffed after hazes/dries (about 15-30 min). UPPS is basically a spray and wipe, and I use it about once a month after a wash to prolong the initial layer of UPP. I'm pretty sure either can be used as a stand alone product and both offer the same protection.

Thanks Hawhyen!

I remember Patrick saying once that he mixed the UPP with some WG (3:1)...I might try that.

The UPPS is not quite what UPP is, although still, a good base protectant....
On another note, I would not recommend using Opti-Seal with a PC/UDM. Thats defeating the products concept, not to mention, probably a waste of it. An 8oz bottle of that stuff will probably last as long as you own the car..........if applied quarterly at about 1/4 oz a time. That stuff is pretty incredible.
DWG can be used atop or below ANYTHING. Just allow ample time between coats of products, so both may react appropriately.
