Ewwwwww...mid-winter clay

Because of the winter storm we had, my car spent about one whole month completely covered in grit from the volcanic rocks they use for snow traction. That stuff sticks more than I thought it did because I washed the car and clayed it after dinner and wow...it was bad! I never expected it to be this bad, especially given that I had previously done a clay job in June.

It's been dark here since before I started so I'll take photos of the car tomorrow.

After doing one small section of the rear door....

And the used, dirty clay next to fresh clay for a comparison shot.

I used the Griot's Garage clay on a previous car (non-acura) and found it to be way too tough and hard to use. You should consider checking out the sonüs SFX clay from autopia. It makes the job that much easier.

The Griot's Speed Shine is an excellent lube for the clay though.

On a somewhat related note, what do you guys do to keep your clay soft? I remember last year when I clayed, it was still a little chilly outside. The clay was pretty hard and it probably caused more marring than it should have because of that. I'm just thinking towards this spring when I go clay it again how I should maintain the clay to prevent it from going hard.

I just spray some QD spray on the box that holds the clay. It's a tight seal, so it keeps it moist.

You could let it sit in a bucket of warm water to soften it up.
