2008/2009 Subaru Legacy 3.0R Limited

Basically the same power as the 2.5GT, but without the issues that come with turbos. So it is more reliable in the long run.

Its a flat 6 engine, with around 245hp, which is all i really need. It comes from the factory with Bilstein suspension as well.

Im still trying to find one, but they are rare cars (especially here in Texas) Ill probably end up going out of state for it.

I can understand David's frustration. My TL has needed more repairs than my old Grand Cherokee at that mileage. Very very shocking.

we could nitpick and nitpick and nitpick all day long.
but all cars, and their manufacturers will still throw us a few problems here and there.
not every car is perfect. (Although, I like to believe mine is)
its kinda silly to single out a single manufacture
instead, find a car that fits your needs. which looks like david has the need for speed and awd.
hopefully the car he has in mind doesnt give him to much trouble. good luck to you, David.

yea, i bought the car for "honda reliability" and while the car never really "broke down" on me, it was far from what i expected.

btw, this is the car im looking at right now (except in black)

Nitpick? I will just state the facts:
I had to replace shocks and springs at 60K, due to poor tire wear and rough rough ride.
Starter went out at 70K. 3 batteries in 2 years.
The interior rattles more than my Grand Cherokee did at 70K and my brother's is still rattle free at 120K.
I did a complete flush of the trans after everyone's horror stories in the 3G TL Section.

Vs. my Grand Cherokee when I passed it to my sister at 115K:
New shocks at 100K, original springs.
New Fan clutch at 110K.
One window regulator at 90K
One power door lock actuator at 105K

My 1995 Grand Cherokee is a whole different story. But it's a 15 year old Jeep.

I agree not every car is perfect. I do like my TL, but it's not what I expected. And to repair it, sucks! Not at easy compared to my Jeeps or to my parents (bland) Toyota and Lexus.

This was the car I was hoping to buy a few years back but the TL was a screaming deal.

repairs off the top of my head on the tl:
new control arms
new motor mounts(twice)
new rear ball joints
new transmissions (twice)
broken seat heater (twice)
SRS light- (twice) once it was a drivers side seat belt, then the passenger side
new belt tensioner
turn signal switch (it would come on by itself when turning)
CV joints (twice)

I owned the car from 57,000 to 115,000

im sure there are things that im forgetting, but thats enough to discourage me from buying another Acura.

but thank god i got the extended warranty!

Oh wow... did you get a lemon?! I know I'm due for motor mounts and trans mount. Maybe ball joints. I did replace sway bar endlinks... Why did Honda think plastic made a good bearing material? Moog's brass endlinks > Honda's plastic.

I don't have the extended warranty. I'm screwed.

basically yea, it was a pile.. But i always fixed everything, so the guy who bought it should be getting a good car with lots of new parts.

Yes it can happen to any vehicle. But if you paid full price for one, shouldn't you expect it to be as reliable as the price tag and reputation? Granted I did not, but if I did, I would be pretty ticked.

This is my last Honda/Acura since the new ones don't look good. The 3G TL and 1G TSX were the best looking Acuras, at least in my opinion.

I am frustrated with some of the designs of the 3G TL when it comes to the Honda grade suspension parts. An entry level luxury sedan should not have this many problems related to suspension and ditto on the rattling interior. That is unacceptable. I've just learned to live with it but still, completely unacceptable.

kinda contradicting yourself here?
all cars will have their faults. like you said, you can live with it and fix it to your best ability or you can become a complainer and complain about all of its faults and how your car isnt stacking up to your expectations. what is your expectations btw? a handjob and to drive itself? its an ENTRY luxury car. dont expect it to be a 50k car....

btw, im just in a debating mood. i still like dicksickles and you, carlito.

Yes, I can see where I am contradicting myself. In a mechanical aspect, I can deal with it. With the interior, where you spend all your time you know... driving... on a vehicle that cost around $40K, you would expect it to remain rattle free for years. If a Jeep Grand Cherokee can do it, I would expect an Acura to do the same. Heck, if the Hyundai Sonata I rented (and was subsequently beat on for 24K miles) can remain rattle free, I expect an Acura to do so.

If you're saying an entry level luxury car is allowed to rattle, does that mean all vehicles priced under 40K are allowed to rattle and one shouldn't complain until they shell out 50K? Not in my opinion. Especially if cheaper cars can go for thousands of miles without the interior rattling over bumps. My dad's Entry Level Lexus 01 ES300 with 95K doesn't rattle. Nor Mom's 02 Avalon with 120K.

I like debates.

sorry but rattles are very petty and insignificant.
You're a smart kid, find out where its making the noise and silence it.

I wholeheartedly disagree. If they can't engineer a door panel to remain attached in a manner that is acoustically pleasing in the cabin, why should I trust them to engineer a transmission or an engine? Yeah, I'm sure they weren't the same person but it makes me think: Where else did they cut corners?

One purchases a luxury vehicle as they cost more due to amenities and higher levels of engineering one would expect from a luxury car. Yes, even a entry-level luxury car. It appears that they did not spend enough time on interior acoustics and appointments.

I'm getting to fixing them. The life of an accountant/auditor/consultant = no time to fix the thing. It's embarrassing to drive clients in a vehicle that rattles. It does give me something to do as I find working on cars de-stressing.

What's wrong with your transmission Paul? Have you changed out the crappy OEM fluid and the pressure sensors?

Oh, if you have warranty definitely let them check it. Over the past few months I have changed the filter, pressure sensors and fluid(Redline). I'd hate to have to pay for a new trans anytime soon.

How easy was it to change the filter? I know the sensors are easy to change.

It was really simple. There are a few DIY's in the 3G Garage with pics that help. It should take about half an hour max. The filter and all parts is like around $20 before shipping.

any of you guys know how much a power steering fluid pump might cost? mine has been acting up the past 2 days making a loud ass whining noise when i start it up in the morning, then it gradually silences after driving.

^ have you already done the recall? Stop by a dealer and let them check your vin. If it has been done, you can simply fix the issue by replacing the o ring.

Have you had the o-ring changed? It's really simple to do yourself.

i might want to...
Ok i just came back from the dealer and they said you have to wait an hour and a half for us to diagnose everything to do with your power steering and if its only he hose and o-ring that has to be replaced then its free because of the recall but if its the pump than you have to pay out of your own pocket..then i asked how much is the o-ring? they said 10 bucks per o-ring. what do yall think
