Windows XP
Windows XP
I'm running Windows XP and keep getting a "Windows is low on Virtual Memory" error. Does anyone know why this is happening or what I can do about it?
Also, what is everybody using to block popups? I must get 3 to 4 different popups for each page I open up. I was using Ad-Aware but when I chose to block some of the popups it would kick me offline. Supposably because I chose to kill popups that contained the words "Microsoft Internet Explorer," so it also killed that app.
Thanks.

if it says low virtual memory your hard drive is probably getting full. might want to delete some of your gay porn.
download/install the lates version of 'adaware' and turn off your messenger service if you have nt/xp/2000. Dont use adaware to block popups. Use/install the google toolbar. that should stop the pop ups. make sure you have antivirus software with current definitions/engine running also.

Popup = google toolbar
The reason for the popups is due to spyware installed on the PC, download spybot (google it) and update that, run it and then enjoy fewer popups.
Virtual memory is best if controlled by the system, and if you barely meet the system requirements for WinXP it could be that you need more memory. It may also be related to the number of popups you get, or the items in your startup folder that dont need to exist. Maybe you have a memory leak in some program or a device driver. Update everything with windows update (tools -> windows update in IE).

I have 60 GB internal and 200 GB external, so I don't think that's a problem.
What's the point of Ad-Aware if I don't use it to block pop-ups?

download this utility and run it. it will tell you exactly what processes are running on your machine, their memory usage, and where the executable files are located on your hard drive. If you want, post the results here and we can take a look at them.
