I've noticed this for a while now... why does Netflix delay the release of movies? A movie will come out on DVD but won't be available to ship out via Netflix for weeks after the actual release date. Here is one just for example: 'The Losers' came out on DVD on July 20 but isn't even available on Netflix until August 17 - a whole month later? wtf...?
It's to the point where I've been going to Blockbuster lately to get Losers, Kickass, Bounty Hunter, etc. Furthermore, unless I time my returns exactly so that my next disc is shipped out on Monday or Tuesday when new blurays are released, I'm usually in for a long wait until the disc becomes available.
This could be related to living in HAW however.
I wonder if I should switch to the Blockbuster plan. For a comparable fee, I can get the same # of discs, plus be able to rent PS3 games and be able to turn discs in to the store and take a new movie off the shelf.
My concern is the turn around time for new discs. Right now with Netflix, it's a 2 day turn around which IMO is very good. If I mail a disc out Monday AM, I will have a new disc by Wednesday.
Thoughts?

My wife had been after me for some time to join and so about a half year ago, I said for her to go ahead. I have to admit, their service is next to none... as in great. We have been very pleased with them. I only wish I'd thought of this first.

Hey brotha, I do watch TV series but only when they are released on Bluray. I will deliberately wait until shows such as Lost or Nip/Tuck are released on Bluray. How is the resolution on Hulu?

Well nothing beats Blu Ray. The HD should be pretty good though. I don't have Hulu Plus so I couldn't tell you so you might wanna check reviews should you be interested. Netflix HD through my PS3 looks pretty damn good though so I can't imagine Hulu Plus being that much different.

...and the app works like a charm....resolution is great on my 3GS.
It's pretty cool how you can pick up where you left off watching....no matter what device you are using.
Downside: No DVD Queue managemen How they can't put this into the app is beyond be...."Instant Queue" is all you get.

I've been using Netflix for years. Extremely good service, customer services is great too. Return DVD's on a Monday, and receive replacements within 2-3 days.
I have the Roku device for streaming, works ok, but my Panasonic DVD BluRay player streams Netflix much better. Video quality is mostly excellent.
Also, there's a great Iphone app called PocketFlicks.

Ended up telling them the envelope came empty...they sent a duplicate, and sent both back that same day in the same envelope so I didn't have to deal with mailing in something myself.

Only thing that gets sometimes is streaming. I stream through my 360 and occasionally, it'll have fits and go back and forth between super clear HD to really shitty looking standard def, and then sometimes somewhere in between.
I don't know if it's netflix, the 360, or the internet connection. It says it's the latter but I'm not sure why that would be the case. I have a fairly fast internet package.

It's your connection.
I stream through my xobx all the time and it works great. Those occasional times when the net is bogged it flips around.

I have used netflix for almost 11 years now! ha ha ha.
I've seen them try many different styles of envelopes trying to protect discs. They've always gone back to plain paper - guess it's not worth it.
I've stayed with netflix basically due to their selection. New releases may get bogged down, but hell, older movies are generally better anyway (imho). It has been worth it for the selection + convenience, even if it wasn't necessarily the 'cheapest option'.
Back when they started they only had one shipping center - in california. So you were looking at a 7 day turnaround. So I was 8 out, so I could watch a movie every 2-3 days. There would be roughly 2 at my home, 2 on the way there, 2 in processing, and 2 on the way to my house......
Oh, and a recommendation for you: Keep extra envelopes at home, because sometimes you get torn envelopes and can't reuse them. Sometimes just stick two dvds in one envelope and mail it back, and keep a couple just in case.

I have an Insignia streaming Blu Ray player but I had to exchange the first one because the card was so bad. I couldn't d/l firmware to it and the streaming was so buggy that I couldn't even pause it without dropping connection. Then when I exchanged it, it worked like a dream. However, since your connection fluctuates as opposed to mine that was piss poor then yeah you can probably rule out your 360. But doesn't that mean that even your wired connected devices have spotty connection?

Alright so since a lot of you have had netflix for a while, what are the good movies on the online streaming? I haven't heard of most of the movies, so its hard to choose sometimes. Any suggestions in the online streaming movies?

there are literally thousands of instant movies...
they even have a top 100 list... most of which were huge box office hits...
once you start using the service enough, it TELLS YOU what you would like to watch... lol
take a look around the site.. your streaming device doesnt have all of the movies you can watch.. sometimes you have to add them through the site.

ANY movie on the website that has the "play" button.. will pop up an "add to instant queue" button when you hover with the mouse.
the website has ten fold the amount of movies, and popular movies as your device currently shows.
just find one you wanna watch and add it!
