LCD vs DLP

I am in the market for a new TV, mine is just about to die. The vertical sweep is failing.

So I am looking at the 2 types of TV's. The models that I am researching are the Sharp Aquos 37HV6u and the samsung HLN467W
They are that small because of space restraints. I don't need the HDTV tuner in the unit, I know that will save me at least a grand even though it would be a great feature to have, I cannot justify the price.

Anyone have either one of these TV's or makers.

All so I am trying to keep it under 3 grand even though the Sharp will be about $3500 after tax.

Make sure you see the DLP set in person, it is an absolute must! If you're sensitive to the infamous DLP rainbow effect, as it varies from person to person, a DLP set would be a total turnoff.

I dont remember when the next models of TVs will come out, I believe its usually in the late winter / early spring so that stores can clear out their old models with the Christmas season, but the next generation DLPs are supposed to use 2 DLP chips and 2 color wheels to eliminate the rainbow effect that some people experience. Rear Projection DLP from what I've seen / read is better than RP LCD in most respects although I've heard LCD has made some improvements lately. Haven't heard anything about JVC's LCOS yet, but I'm very interested to see what advantages/disadvantages it has versus LCD/DLP.

I just went to the store to look at the sets, and I noticed the rainbow effect on the DLP. I think that would drive me insane if I had to watch that.

They had the 32in Sharp and the picture was noticeably the best. even better than the Plasmas they had around it.

Both DLP and LCD are awesome, but traditional rear projection is best for movies. It all depends on your primary use for the TV.

If you can afford it LCoS stuff is the way to go. Newer LCoS HD TV's do full res HDTV where as the DLP do not.

But they cost $$.

Check if the new Toshiba DLP comes in a smaller screen than 50".....looks even better than the Samsungs.

The way to get rid of the rainbow is a faster color wheel so you don't see the changes in the color (what appears to be a rainbow is the colors spinning). With a quick wheel, it's almost impossible to detect. Next step is a three chip unit with dedicated colors (the way the pro projectors are setup).

Def go check out an HLP model - much faster wheel.
