It's been a long wait, but Apple finally took the wraps off its 3G iPhone. Thinner edges, full plastic back, flush headphone jack, and the iPhone 2.0 firmware -- Apple's taking a lot of the criticisms to heart from the first time around. Obviously 3G is at the forefront, but they're also making sure it's available all over internationally, works with enterprises, runs 3rd party apps... and does it all for cheaper. Apple claims its 3G speeds trounce the competition, with pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750 -- and obviously it completely trounces the old EDGE data. Battery life isn't getting put out to pasture though, with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio. GPS is also a go. Apple is using A-GPS, which supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers. WiFi data is also worked into the mix, which should give users a pretty solid lock on where the heck they are on this planet. Apple hopes to launch in 70 countries this year. 8GB is available for $199, 16GB for $299 -- and the 16GB comes in white. Apple will be hitting the 22 biggest markets, including the US, on July 11th.

I'm getting one, but the down side is that they are going to pick up the price difference on the back side. iPhone data plans will go up to $30 with no SMS and $45 for buisiness accounts.

 

that's what I figure... I still like the $99/month unlimited EVERYTHING plan with Sprint better. Which is why I'll probably still go with the Instinct...

 

i got all excited about the iphone coming to canada, i called rogers to find out when im eligible for a hardware upgrade, and i wont be able to up grade untill september .

I was going to get the iphone 3g but i will wait for the Touch Diamond. It sucks that i will have to pay $99 and an extra $30 and i still dont get unlimited text. With Sprint i get Unlimited EVERYTHING including TV, GPS (Voice Navtek), and Internet with my flash enabled browser. Its not as pretty as the iphone, but ATT sucks and i wont spend an etra 30 plus tax on a flash-less device when i already have the 2.5G Iphone and it works fine on wifi.

 

I didn't see it say anywhere that its with 0 text messages...

 

all I know is... I walked into an AT&T store last night, they had a big $99/month unlimited talk sign, I asked the employee if that included web browsing, he said no, and went on to say that "the other stuff are extra" I was pretty much already walking out before hearing him finish what he had to say...

 

What a deal!

 

The plans should be same...with the exception of 10 extra bucks for the 3g plan

No texts...who gives a fuck? They only included 200 in the non 3g plan, which is barely enough for most people today...I've been paying the extra 10 bucks for the 1500 texts regardless.

An extra 10 bucks for 3g? OMFG!!! NOOOO!!! Look at the other 3g plans on AT&T....its the same, not like they are charging a premium because its the iphone.

If its just you, you dont need unlimited talk, that is BS.

I currently have the 900 min plus I pay for 1500 texts.

So, I pay about 105/month after taxes. with the 3g plan I would pay 115ish.

If you just have to have unlimited...which is garbage for an individual plan then is 99, 30, and 10...plus taxes...so 140-150/mon.

 

yeah, I really don't need unlimited talk but 900 would be safe... with Verizon it was either 450 or 900 and then unlimited... 450 wasn't quite enough, I've only gone over 900 once, the month my dad died with all the funeral planning... BUT, I DO need unlimited data...

My dilemma is, I've already told Verizon that I'm done with them and my last day with them is June 23rd, I have to get another phone by that day and port the number over or I'll lose my number. The iPhone doesn't come out til early July

Not really stupid shit. AT&T should have kept the 200 texts included. Why take it away? I can understand paying $10 more for the extra speed (3G), but text has no bearing on that. Maybe 200 texts is enough for you hollywood types, but it might be enough for others. Quit getting all worked up, I'm just stating the facts. AT&T is bitching at how much subsidizing is going to cost them, which is total BS because they are recouping the money in other ways. Besides, their other data plans have included text.

well, the problem is... I told them to take me off auto debit... so, May 15th they were suppose to draft money out of my account for the next month, but since I told them to stop, comes June 24th... my service with Verizon is done... well at least that's the way they explained it to me. She clearly told me that if I don't get another phone by the 23rd (from another carrier), and port my number over, I'll lose the number

 

Just port to AT&T now (2 yr contract) and get a free phone from AT&T. When iPhone time comes, buy it and renew your contract for 2 years... you'll only be extending it a month.

 

Better way would have been to keep your payment plan. Find your new phone then port your number and then cancel.

They want your money. Im sure if you walked into a store and said you would like to pay for another month or two they wouldn't fight it.

I don't call or text that much anyways....For 100 bucks a month, I rather have some data plan with a USB modem...
