ok i have a question for you guys. in one of the apple videos it says you can change the setting on the iphone to setup how often you want the iphone to check for mail. but this option is not on my iphone, is it on any of yours? go to settings, then mail, then under the second category listed as messages above preview and show there is supposed to be the option for how often you want to check for mail. also i have to charge my battery every night, it's dead every day. does everyones last around 3 days??

Well, I can tell you that while you copy and paste with your system, the palm OS and windows mobile is just complete crap, and anyone with any tech knowledge knows it. Hell I would rather have some hacked up linux on my pocket device. So it is give and take, and frankly hating without using one makes you as bad as one of those turtle neck apple fanboys who loved the iphone without even seeing it. yeah, try that out for size.

About the Mail question:

I got o settings>>mail>>and then “Auto check”, which is the first option under the subheading “messages”. Then you can tell it to check every hour, 30 min, or 15 min. I have it set to every hour. Or I can update manually if I want to know before that.

As for the battery question:

I guess I’m generally a pretty light user. While at work, (9-8pm usually) the thing tends to stay locked except for maybe 1.5 hours during the day. I listen to the iPod part while going to work for 30 minutes every day (maybe on the way back from work too)…then there’s the occasional browse, etc at night.

I think you just need to be smart about the battery. I leave wifi off while at work because there’s nothing in range and leaving wifi on drains the battery more quickly (since it is constantly checking for new wifi sources). I leave Bluetooth off unless I know I’m going to be using a headset. I set the screen brightness to around 60%. I set it to check for email once an hour. And I turn it off at night while I sleep.

With usage like this, I probably get actually 4 days, but in practice, I get 2-3 depending because over the weekend I use it a ton. Internet drains the batt, especially with wifi, but standby uses practically no power and the ipod part uses very little. I think you get 6 hours total using the internet with wifi.

As for all the omissions, stuff like MMS and video recording is stuff I honestly rarely use. And if they had included it, it might have tainted the simple-ness to the UI. The lack of personalized ringtones is a bit annoying, but this will almost definitely get fixed with a software update, and whatever, maybe they’re trying to minimize the number of asshats out there with annoying ass ringtones (I kid, I kid)

I think that when looking at this phone, you need to look at its omissions and decide for yourself if those are really things you use often, and whether its wroth the trade off for all the pluses of the phone. For me, it is, so I am happy.

Its not really the $599 price......its the fact you can't insure your $600 investment. I know I'm rough on phones, so its hard for me to move to it. Maybe once the newness wears off they'll offer insurance. Can you put it under renters insurance? Might cost $40 extra a year and have a $100 deductable.

I pay $5 a month for insurance on my Treo. It could accidentally get run over by a truck, and Sprint will send me a new one. So they said.

Yeah I pay the same for my Q on Verizon, but At&t doesn't offer insurance on many of their phones. Mainly the high priced PDA phones

the Treo is the first phone I got insurance on.. when I bought it it was $450. It seemed like the right thing to do. Have I had to use it yet? No. But what's any kind of insurance for?

Well, I got my hands on one today. Stopped by the Apple store, took a look at the iphone, if it was Verizion, I'd buy it. I liked the controls, loved the screen, it would be perfect for what I do phone, a little e-mail, music and video. It was very well put together, felt very solid in my hands. I didn't make a call, but from hearing the others around me. It sounded like it was everyone was talking pretty normal.

I on the other hand have always had insurance on my phones. Just seems stupid to risk the chance of buying a new phone, loosing it 5 months down the line and its my own damn fault I have to pay for a new/used phone. Rather pay a small fee every month, and my deductable if it happens to me.

Now mind you I have never had a $600 phone, if I can't get insurance one way or another......I won't get the thing. Simple as that

I figured you would have one by now... you disappoint me

I love mine more and more every day. Google maps was a lifesaver when I was out of town last weekend. The iPod functions are great, phone is fantastic. Worth every penny.

I have insurnsance on my 650 and I had to use it once. Biggest pain in the ass I ever had to go through with sprint. That was actually the beginning on my dislike for them.

Well, I waited until July 3rd to activate mine...took 23 seconds (yes, I timed it).

Anywho....love the phone! Yes, there are a few quirks like everyone else has stated, but nothing that will cause me to bang my head on the floor about.

The one that bothers me the most though, is the fact that when you sync photos through iTunes, a folder called “iPhone photo cache” gets created that is the same size as the folder I synced....which basically causes double the space to be used.

The stocks widget is great Now I can see my positions with one touch of a button.

My biggest concern is the battery life. What does 300-400 really mean? Are they referring to when you charge it from 0 life, or are they referring to every time you plug it in?

Some good news for the iPhone's battery. Everyone, including us, originally reported that the iPhone battery loses life after 300-400 charges, needing to be replaced. People were mad. The mainstream media picked it up, getting all huffy. Turns out, that's bullshit. Apple's site clearly says that the battery life "is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 400 full charge and discharge cycles." Even if that statement is filled with hedging, it's clear that the battery should be very much alive after 400 cycles, and we were wrong. I'm sorry. The source of the error? The NY Times Review...

Haven't even opened the box. Just getting ready to leave from work. I printed the manual. I'll read it on the train.

I'm just most concerned about AT&T's service. Verizon has been nothing but great. Hope I don't have any major issues.

I know its different every, but for me I had the real test this week when I was out in the middle of nowhere at a couple of different locations. One place we were over 60 miles from ANY civilization. No buildings, no electricity, no people, Not even telephone or powerlines. NOTHING. Only people with AT&T had service, clear as day. AND Edge was the fastest it ever was. Close to Dial up. But thats probably because no one else was there to use it.
