Google Maps

I guess I always knew you could create your own maps in google maps, but I never realized HOW USEFUL this could be particularly for a vacation.

I am going to Hawaii for my honeymoon and know I will have my phone with me for Navigation in the car, etc, so it made sense to distill the guidebook and recommendations down to a google map. This way, when I want to go somewhere, the directions are ready and waiting. All I had to do was mark the spots on the map with customizable pins/markers, and I can route to any of them with ease. I can also put relevant info on each pin like phone number, notes, etc.

Here is an early version of what I put together for Maui (not going to do everything on there, but I want to know what's where, etc.):

I manually placed all the markers. Each one has info such as:

Also, you can share the maps with other people (not sure if it updates for the sharee if I modify after I share it).

Anyway, I never really used the custom "make your own map" feature before and thought it was pretty cool.

Well, bollocks.

Google removed the ability to access ANY of this custom data from their mobile apps.

I will need to access the map creator web page from my mobile device and then will not have access to the navigation built into maps.

Fuggin ridiculous.

i also dont like the change they made to historical traffic. You cant look up historical traffic with directions up. You have to close the directions and then look at traffic trends...but without the overlay of directions/route.

yeah, I use it for every trip.
Great for planning, and great for looking back:
Here's the one I made for my norway trip:

The old version of google maps for android had the ability to view' my maps'. I was very very unhappy when it got removed. My workaround was to export the locations to xml and then import them into a different map program I was using.

Copilot.
For the Norway trip, I needed a navigation program that worked offline. (I don't have international data)

Just spent the last 15 minutes catching Pokemon.
So far, I have 33 Pokemon.

Finally found Pikachu. Now I can retire.
