Facebook noob, help?

I'm using an iPhone and I'm getting other people's Check-ins as push notification alerts. I'm not being checked-in by them nor am I subscribed to their status...does anyone know why I'm getting these alerts?

This is only happening with a few select people so I don't know whats up. Any ideas?

Yes it's been happening to me too on my iPhone. I brought this up to my friend a few weeks ago and she said she's getting the same thing on her android phone.

It makes me feel like a stalker when I'm not even trying to stalk the person. I don't see where to turn it off nor have I looked.

Yup this is correct. It sounds like a bug?

That's not a bug, but a normal feature that shows you your friends check ins.

That's right, it isn't a bug. There's a certain radius of checkins that you'll get push notifications for. E.g you won't get checkins from friends who are 20km away I believe. At least that's what I've noticed, but then this would mean Facebook is stalking your location, which I doubt since the little pointy arrow isn't visible in the top right corner.

Pretty much what I was going to type.

Yet another reason why I do not use the Facebook app. If I want to check it on my phone I just go to their website through my phone's browser. I uninstalled the app the first week I had the phone...

The option is controllable on your mobile device, I don't see a setting on facebook.com itself that will allow you to control friend's check-in...

on iPhone... hit Settings, scroll down to Facebook, hit Push Notifications... Place Tags / Nearby Friends.. set it off... Enjoy
