Computer purchase advice..
Desktop vs All in 1
I may have to buy a computer for work. It is very basic stuff and not looking to spend above $1k. Am leaning towards an All in 1 as it will take lots less space. Any words of wisdom.
Thanks.

All in one = laptop's performance....
Desktop = much more bang for the buck.
Windows 8 may drive you nuts

Definitely go for Windows 7 if doing Windows, like TK said it depends on performance

the all in ones are nice, but can get pricey quick if you want a higher performer, compared to a desktop anyway. I just got a new laptop, win8 tiles are a pain, but you can definitely tell it is built on win7. Just get a wireless keyboard/mouse to reduce the clutter.
I highly recommend downloading start8 from stardock. They make quite a few windows enhancement programs, but start8 gives you back the start button/menu, and allows you to boot right to the desktop after login. Only costs $5, which was well worth it to me since i was ready to put win7 on it myself.

All in ones = more expensive vs desktop feature for feature/spec for spec.
All in ones = generally not as easy to upgrade/replace parts and limited in expandability and upgradeability.
All in ones = when/if it goes out or it gets too old and slow, the monitor goes with it when you need a new one.

Like everyone said, it all depends on what you are looking to do. Since it sounds like its mostly for work, mostly Office application I'm assuming, and most likely come with Windows 8, I would say that both of the options will be fine.
Compared to Windows 7, 8 is much faster and since you can just download a little application that will make 8 just like 7, there is really not a wrong choice.
With that being said, if you are looking to do more graphics design/video games, definitely go with the desktop.

No it's not. Win 8 uses Win 7 kernel. Same crapola. Win 8 is optimized for touch screen devices (ARM processors) and is more cloud friendly. A definite must for a touch screen pc that the op wants.

1st off, GJ picking a test from last year when 8 was first released for RTM, it officially came out on the 26th... 2nd of all, Win 8 has MUCH better memory/processor/disk management then Win 7, look at the boot up times. I still use Win 7 on my work lappy and most of my home PC's, and I love it, but I'm just talking from personal experience.

^ you are trying too hard man. Boot up times are definitely optimized, hence best suited for tablets/laptops as it only initiates immediate devices at boot-up... This is why you see faster boot up times. Windows 7 loads everything, so it takes more time. I wouldn't lose much sleep over this. Are there lots of mad Russians in AZ?
