Purchased a Used Acura Tl 2009, is this normal?
Just a quick question, I recently purchased an Acura(my first real car ) and it is Automatic. Is it normal for me to feel it actually shifting, all the other cars i have driven are very smooth, cant really feel the gears actually shifting. This car had a nice burst of energy as the rpm goes up. Overall is this something i should worry about? It is not too jerky you just feel the power of the shifts.

I halfway expected to come in here and read about how much girls are throwing themselves at you in your new Acura.
Normal...that's a tough question. If it's more jerky than you expect, and you just bought it...why not have it checked out. Maybe there's a software update or some pressure switches that could be swapped out to make it run smoother?

i'm assuming the 2.5 with a 4 speed automatic.
my suspicions were wrong, I was thinking that the altima you had was equipped with a CVT transmission.
however, the 4 speed automatic in the altima would behave similar to the TL, if the alitma had more power.
so, in conclusion, because the TL is the more sportier and more powerful car, the shift points will be a little more harsh. enjoy!

It is perfectly OK to feel the shifts.
The impression you get should be that the shift is firm fast and clean. You do not want it to be harsh or mushy or sloppy.
It's fun to count the gear changes as you accelerate smoothly down a straight road. You can also watch the tach at the shift points. The shifts may be more noticeable when you accelerate more aggressively.

A transmission oil change and a transfer oil change may smooth things, especially if the previous owner neglected those.

As stated above, its a sportier car that is going to feel more aggressive at times. I agree with Tonyware as well. Who knows how the previous owner cared for the car.
