Video issues, insight needed

Thanks in advance

I've been playing SimCity lately and monitor goes into power saving mode, was set at 20 minutes. I have turned it off and still get it, but longer than 20 minutes, that was set. When it goes into power saving mode, I cannot wake it with keyboard or mouse.

I have gotten this problem before once or twice per month, when I have left the computer on overnight, which I pretty much do every night. It was always on the 20 minutes shut-off.

I have to do a power switch reboot.

I have updated to latest drivers and software for GeForce GTS260, used a different cable, and swapped monitors, both Dells.

Time for a new video card??

Again Thanks

Two more things to check:

Control Panel -> Power Options

Change plan settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings

Check under Display, make sure it's set to Never.

Also, go under your monitor's physical control menu, make sure any sort of 'eco' settings or power saving modes are OFF.

So it's a new video card?

It shouldn't require that. It's gotta be a setting that's being overlooked.

I dug deeper into the "Change Advanced Power Settings" harddrive was set to shut down at 20 minutes. I have SSD. I played SimCity for about an hour when I set it to never. Couldn't play longer that, at that time.

I did get a new video card though, GTX 650. It was needed, I was being slowed down with the 260 when performing certain Photoshop tasks.

Thanks for the guidance.

Reinstall the video driver first.

I would ditch the 260 and get the 650ti. That is a very nice card.

Well, on Saturday it wouldn't run for more than 15 minutes, timed it the second time, was about 11 minutes. Last night played over an hour w/o issue.

I order a GTX 650, which is sitting here to be swapped out.

Could be a number of issues... but as long as you have confirmed that it is not due to the "Power Options" it might be pointing to your card.

When you swap out the card, completely remove the drivers from your system and reinstall them fresh when you put in the new card.
