Hey, this is my first time on this forum. I hope someone can help me out with this. I'm putting a J37a1 into a Odessey that had a J35A, the crank sensor isn't reading and they have a totally different sensor. The harness is a 3 wire sensor and the new crank sensor is a 6 wire. I tried just putting a 6 wire pigtail on the 3 wire harness but that didn't fix it. The 3 wire sensor was originally in the bottom of the oil pa. Do I have to swap the oil pan? Do something else? Got any ideas of what I could do?

Just curious, was this J37A1 'swap' into a J35A7? Oddy modeled after a prior successful one, you read about somewhere, or was this just something you thought was a novel idea & decided to perform?

Yes, I put a J37A1 into the J35A7. I did it thinking they were basically the same and didn't realize that the crank sensor was different. I had been able to get the J37A1 for $100 out of a wrecked car and the Odessey had a blown up motor.
Here is what I found, #12; oil pan crank sensor for the 2008 Honda Odyssey EXL with all related fitments - 37500-R40-A01.
#33; oil pan crank sensor for the 2010 Acura MDX with all related fitments - 37500-R40-A01.
They are the same part number 37500-R40-A01.
37500-R40-A01 cross referenced to RockAuto, the sensors have three pins?
Not sure how 'six pins' ties into all this?
Is the correct sensor in the J37A1 oil pan?

I'm no expert, with that said, I'm not seeing how it would be possible to take an 08' Odyssey J35A7 ECU / VCM; with a factory engine harness 3 wire / 3 pin oil pan mounted crank sensor and make it compatible with a non-VCM 08' MDX J37A1 with a 6 pin oil pump mounted crank sensor.
It seems like 'plug & play' probability of success would increase if a 2010 MDX J37A1 was employed instead (if it mounts to the Ody trans?) since that engine has a similar oil pan 6 pin crank sensor configuration (shown above in post 7) as the original blown 2008 Ody EXL J35A7?
That does not even address any 'can of worms' issues that may / would arise (if any) regarding the Odyssey's VCM configured ECM trying to manage a non-VCM MDX J37A1.
I understand the allure of an increased displacement J37A1 over the J35A7, especially for the $100 dollar cost; however, it appears to be a puzzle you may not be able to piece together easily, if at all?
Hopefully, one of the very few forum members, with this depth of experience / knowledge participating here, will eventually read your thread and have a definitive answer.
