Computer Help please Windows 98
I currently running window 98. My PC have both a modem and a network card. We recently install a router to our broadband. But the PC keep trying to setup MSN with the modem instead of the network card. ANyway to make the it go through the network card instead of the modem ???
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Windows 98
Press windows key + pause break at the same time.
Go to network adapters tab then select the modem and go to properties. See if you can disable the modem.
If not try going to network connections and make sure the modem is disabled and the network card is enabled.

If I could still remember ... try this ... if you are using IE, go to Internet Option, select "Connections" tab. If you have dial up properties installed, it should be shown inside the box. Below the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings", there are three buttons. Select "Never dial a connection". When you open up IE, it will not attempt to use the modem anymore.
Hope this helps.

here's a guaranteed solution
get rid of windows 98. if you must run windows, run XP or at least 2000 pro. your system will run alot smoother. i don't even think microsoft themselves support 98 anymore

Other Programs like Outlook Express have a place in their options for "Connection Method" or something like that. Just make sure its on NONE or Never Dial.
Or if you will never use Dialup again, but might use the modem for faxing, you can go into Dial Up Networking and delete the entries to dial an ISP. This way you dont have to disable the modem itself and can still use it for faxing.

That is the correct way to do it, your computer thinks you use dial up, u just need to fix it so it knows you are on broadband and it doesnt need to call in.
But Just upgrade to XP, you will notice a big Difference
I still run '98 and had the same problem. I was able to fix it, but I did not have to disable the dial up adapter. Here's how I fixed it: In Control Panel click Internet Options then click the "connections" tab, then click "LAN settings". Select "automatically detect settings." Click "OK." When you are done, all of the dial-up options under the "connections" tab should be grayed out. I hope this help.
