Ok am I the only one!? This is annoying.

My new rMBP, I charged it to 100% last night, unplugged it and closed the lid to put it to sleep. The screen turned off like normal. When I got up this morning to take it with me the bottom of it was luke warm and when I opened it up the battery had dropped down to 33% even though it was supposed to be sleeping.

Obviously that isn't happening. The only app the was open was Safari, it's happened to me a few times and every time Safari was left open. I'll have to do some more testing but it seems likes the issue is with Safari.

I was trying out Safari because it seems like it gets better battery life than Chrome when I'm using it but if it has an issue where it's preventing the CPU from going into sleep mode than I may have to stick with Chrome.

Anyone else having this issue?

Tested it last night. Closed the lid made sure safari wasn't running, checked it today it was cold on the bottom and no drastic battery loss

Maybe it didn't go to sleep properly? Try checking out the power usage feature in activity monitor.

That doesn't make any sense.

My MBP can't make use of Powernap, but is yours? Maybe something with Power Nap is causing the problem: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5394

hhmmm, maybe. Power Nap says it's turned off when on battery. I don't see a mention of Safari in that article. I don't really use any of those features that benefit from Power nap.

Sadly, you may be a part of this bunch of people that have had issues with battery life. Each person has had the issue present itself at different times, with different OS versions, but the same issue, poor battery life with or without the use of powernap, and other sleep related issues.

What about spotlight indexing?

Or better yet, check out the console application and see if anything is reported in your system logs during the time that you aren't using your machine.

It only tells me that the EC Sleep Timer is the reason it woke up the first time and then I guess it's unknown all the other times.

I turned off Safari, contacts, and calendar iCloud sync just in case, don't use it anyways...

Hopefully that's what it is. If it is that, what a terrible implementation of iCloud syncing. If the computer is in sleep, why even attempt to sync. Why not just wait until the user wakes the machine to sync.

I close lid, it stays asleep for 3hrs, wakes up right quick for 10 seconds and stays asleep until I open the lid 9hrs later.

Only difference that I know of was Safari. All other background tasks/services were the same between the two.

Went to bed with 83% battery, Safari open and iCloud contact/calendar/Safari sync turned off.

Got up with 80% battery and the bottom of my mac was cold.

I may have figured it out... we'll see.

All of a sudden after Chrome loads, its takes a few seconds for the text to appear in the address bar. Everything else is fine. Completely reinstalled Chrome.

Grrr... I want to use Chrome but it seems like it uses much more battery than safari(at least twice as much). With Safari I get iPad like battery life with Chrome it doesn't seem much better than my previous laptop.

My plan is to not bring my charger with me anymore since battery life is so good but Safari doesn't fully replace Chrome.

It's a free upgrade and they've made improvements over the last few versions that makes OS X easier to use and more efficient.

Only issue may be app support. If you're using older apps or some older business apps such as Daylite you may have compatibility issues. my dad is staying on 10.7 due to Daylite making him repurchase the latest version ($300) in order for it to run on 10.8 or higher. He doesn't use it enough to warrant the price.

10.6 was the last version to support Rosetta if you still need that.

My 2007 MBP has been very good to me even with the few issues I had with it. Had a battery and logic board replaced under warranty. Had to pay ~$400 to have my logic board and display replaced a few years back. Replaced the battery a couple years ago again as well. Even after all that is said and done, the computer cost compared to other machines is still good IMO. If my machine lasts till October of 2015, the cost per year for my MBP turns out to be ~$425/year which ain't so bad. It's even running on it's original hard drive.

I've gotten more than 4 years on a cheap POS one I bought. You can get a 120 gig for about $60 these days.

My Early 2008 iMac has been rocking an SSD for years. For the stuff I use it for it runs just as fast or faster than new machines that ship without an SSD. Too bad it won't accept more RAM. I'm actually surprised that 10.10 will support my machine.
