Apple f***ed up big time. This is one of those issues Frederighi should be raked over the coals for. This is AOSP level shit, honestly. I did the fix, though and tested it. All good now.

They've fucked up their update program by reducing internal testing and relying on everything to be caught by beta testers of their Insider program. That and forcing the updates on you

The patch breaks file sharing.
https://www.macrumors.com/2017/11/29...e-sharing-fix/

If you experience issues with authenticating or connecting to file shares on your Mac after you install Security Update 2017-001 for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1, follow these steps to repair file sharing:
  1. Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  2. Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC and press Return.
  3. Enter your administrator password and press Return.
  4. Quit the Terminal app.

Issues patch to fix something broken only to break something else.

Maybe people are just updating it wrong.

Ohh Apple, more password related issues.

Sure not as severe as the other one. But wtf?

Here are the rest of the startup keys

I don't like how there isn't any uniformity in these startup keys. I remember the letters but then I can't remember if I'm supposed to hold to down command with the letter or not.

Keychain is also required to be unlocked, something that happens by default when a user logs in to their account on a Mac.

Keychain can be locked by opening up the Keychain app, but an admin password then needs to be entered whenever an application needs to access Keychain, which can be inconvenient.

entering your admin password anytime keychain needs to be accessed isn’t inconvenient.

you know what’s inconvenient, having all your passwords exposed.

that said i think I some how set my Mac to ask for my admin password whenever keychain needs to be accessed.

Most software has bugs, but that one is pretty bad. I don't store passwords in keychain, though

Window management in macOS sucks compared to Windows. Multi-monitors are dreadful. Full screen apps, or side by side apps are unnecessarily complex and janky

Thanks, at first I thought it was just a utility that added Aero Snap functionality to macOS but I see it has the move window to next display command which is really nice. It's only a buck in the Mac App store, I'd recommend anyone else pick it up.

My big issue is with full screen apps which Magnet doesn't fix. Though if you go to Settings > Dock and change "Double-click a title bar to "zoom" it will maximize a window but not take it full screen. So maximized window + Magnet gives you a pretty similar capabilities as Windows.

Dashboard is officially removed with MacOS Catalina.

honestly I forgot this feature existed and thought it was removed many iterations ago.

Thanks, I had a feeling they might limit it. If I can share my screen over AirPlay to my Apple TV then why can't I do SideCar. It's the same thing

When Catalina comes out, I’ll try the bypass if it’s still available.

if it runs like shit, then I’ll try duet display. But I’m not keen on paying for a subscription to get Apple Pencil support
