Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Downloaded 11 this morning. I saw something on FB about and my MIL updated last night so it made me remember. It's strange that I didn't get notified in the Settings > General tab like I normally do.
So far I'm liking it, haven't had much time to play with it since I did it on my way out the door to the gym. My battery life is horrible anyway. I go from 100% (don't stream music from my phone at the gym, I use my Ipod) mid day around noon it will be at 43-47%.

if I don't charge at lunch I won't make I through rest of day
Not on my 6 or 7, I did on my 4, IIRC....
I'm starting to realize my fingers are too big for the on screen keyboard. I wish I had the option to add a qwerty keypad via charging port, or something.

Try swipe texting. I use it on Gboard. You get used to it quickly. My tip if you have trouble swiping the wrong words is to slow it down a bit. I can't text one handed this way though, not enough dexterity
Tap texting feels archaic to me. Only use it when I have to, like with passwords.

My 7's battery life is REALLY suffering. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone which proved to be a real drain and in the past I could get through a full day with 15-25% left, depending on how I used the phone. I unplugged mine at 9 AM this morning and it's already down to 30%.
Facebook app is the worst. I haven't had that installed on any device in years. I'm coming close to uninstalling FB messenger as well, but that gets way more use.
Just "add to home screen" from your browser and you can access FB that way.

So iOS 11 was supposed to remove that big volume overlay in the middle of the screen and relegate it to the corner instead.
Now in some apps it doesn't show at all, and in others it pops up in the corner as well as the middle. Heh

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is by far and away the buggiest iOS release to date. If Jobs were still alive this would never have shipped but then again, we still would have iPhones with 3.5" screens so....pick your battles and all that.
ROFL Jobs shipped buggy software all the time because all the beta testing was done internally and with developers the public wasn't allowed to test software. That meant a lot less people were using it so a lot less bugs were noticed, then once it was released publicly all these crazy bugs would be found which should've been fixed before release. My favorite bug was the guest account bug on OS X Snow Leopard that deleted all of the main users data if they logged in and logged out of the Guest user account. That was in the official release of the software, a showstopper bug that should've been caught in beta but Jobs loves secrecy and didn't want any unapproved people seeing their OS before release.

It was a sort of rule of thumb to wait until the 10.x.3 update before upgrading so that most of the bad bugs were fixed

I will agree that this version of iOS 11 has been extra buggy, the betas were pretty bad early on, around Public Beta 4 or 5 is when it became more stable and a lot less of a battery hog
I've been fine on my iPhone 7. But I did a clean install instead of upgrading (archive the backup and use something like iBackupViewer if I want to go through old text conversations.
Just more music storage. But remember that if you want ceramic or stainless steel then GPS+LTE is the only option. I want to upgrade my original space grey sport but I'm going to wait until Black Friday to scope out a 42mm stainless steel. Was thinking about going for last year's but all the reviews are that the S3 is really that much better in component improvements.
Never Store music on my watch. Been fine with my 1st gen space grey sport.
i guess that settles it. GPS only for me.
I too will probably wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

Sure, my battery drains a little faster than before. And there's a slight lag when opening some apps if those apps don't crash or freeze first, requiring me to quit them and then open them again to get them to work.
But overall....
Yeah, I should have waited.
Updating to 11.0.1 now. Fix my problems?

^Update to 11.0.1
Apple has released a small software update for iPhones and iPads today. iOS 11.0.1 "includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone and iPad," but the short note provided to iOS users when they update doesn't specify which fixes or improvements they can expect.
However, Apple has claimed in its support documentation that one of the most jarring problems with last week's iOS 11 release is addressed by this update: the Exchange e-mail server bug that prevented sending e-mails for many users relying on e-mail accounts hosted on Outlook.com, Office 365, or certain Exchange Server 2016 configurations. Users received an error message saying, "Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server."
