Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread

Don't know if this was posted before so I wanted to share. My coworkers were telling me that there is a bug with the iPhone5 where even if you are connected to wifi, traffic is routed to the cell connection, thereby causing extra data usage. If this is the case with your account, I would call ATT and complain.

I try not to update my apps until I get on my Wifi. I think Whatsapp, Facebook, and Echofon (Twitter) kill it. I was doing an extra GB this month since I got into Instagram. I watch videos but not like everyday honestly. I chilled with the Netflix too. One month I was doing Netflix like crazy and hit 6GB.

I read through a bunch but there are so many pages in this thread I just decided to ask. Have those that have upgraded their 4S to iOS6 been happy? Any issues with performance? Since my phone is my main company phone, I don't want to update if there are issues. I am hoping it clears up the INCREDIBLY annoying issue in which visual voicemails disappear. They are almost never in the voicemail app. When they do show up, I have to delete them and then go into the deleted folder to listen to them. If anyone has updated their phone that had this problem, has the new iOS fixed the issue?
I do use maps, but mainly to find places, not to navigate or anything. If the Apple Maps still has the same search abilities and shows the same or similar results I would be fine.
^Well the maps thing depends on who you ask. Users here stated that it has tried to drive them off a bridge or addresses are completely wrong.
I've used it quite a bit since I got the phone and it's been nothing short of perfect.

ok, solve my mystery....
Since the iPhone 5 - the bluetooth in my car when I hit answer on navi screen, hangs up the call. What gives? No settings were changed in the car. People are getting mad at me...

OK I need advice: new 5 won't let me play tunes from a single artist, i.e.-I click The Who, pick an album and pick a song, hit play and then all hell breaks loose. The screen goes from the song I picked, to another song by another artist, to another artist to another and stops, not playing anything. WTF?

Apple has started testing iOS 6.0.1 for release, according to a BGR report. The update should fix an issue with horizontal lines on the screen while the keyboard or an app folder is open; a problem with the camera’s flash not working; cellular data not working on some occasions; a bug allowing access to Passbook details from the Lock screen; and an issue that cancels Exchange meetings for the entire invite group. Also included in the update will be improved Wi-Fi support, and a consolidated cellular data switch for iTunes Match.
Just an FYI. I ordered a lighting adapter cable from Apple early last week. cost me 45$
I got it today; works really well with my USA SPEC hon2y I have in my car (with the upgraded cable to work with iphone 4). Still charges my phone very fast and I have all functionality (listen to music, radio and steering wheel controls, etc).
I'm pissed this cost me 45$ for a 6" cable...but thats how apple fucks us all. I'm tired of waiting for the chinese on eBay to come up with something.

Mine was this one:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...-02-m?fnode=48
It came out to 44 or 46$ including shipping I can't remember. I wanted this one because it's for my car and the wire just seemed like a better idea.

This is the same stuff that I see on camera forums about how cables from Canon and Nikon cost too much, so they buy the cheap $5-$10 knock-offs. Then bitch that they don't last after the first time being used.
Its actually kind of true. I've been through so many 4-5$ car/home chargers for my older iphones its crazy.
Truth is the original chargers charge much faster...but they don't last much longer. Every apple charger I've owned has disintegrated where the wire meets the 30pin connector. Lame.
Hopefully this won't be as much of an issue with the new lightning cable because you don't have to pull nearly as hard to get it out of the phone.

I still have my original 3G cables...still perfect. Used solid for 2 years...then used half the time for another 2.
What do you guys do to your cables that cause that kind of issues?

^^^ I think the issues come in when you tug on the wire to remove the charger....you are supposed to hold the base of the charger and remove it, not just tug on the cable to remove it LOL....
my charger from 1st iphone (back in 2007) is still intact where as my girl has gone thro a dozen of those cables LOL

Anyways I always grab the base, even if its tiny as hell.
But the tubing always come off from the base, exposing the wire. I think it's just the way they made the cable. Because if you look at how it's constructed they used very little plastic/rubber for that part. And eventually with all the twisting you might give the cable, it'll snap.
I'm careful with my cables too. Hell my iPod mini cable had outlasted my OG iPhone andiPhone 3GS cable.

i liked the older cables which had a locking pin in them so you have to grab the base to unplug the connector....and the base as good size too
iMessage is down
doesn't seem to be reverting to text either....
It appears that Apple's iMessage service is down for users of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Users in North America and Europe are reporting that they are unable to send iMessages out from their devices. Oddly enough, the service still seems to be working from OS X, with messages sent from OS X even syncing back to iOS devices. But when a user tries to send a message out from their iOS device, the system hangs and the message fails. We have been unable to send messages with any of our iOS devices in New York, Boston, San Francisco, or London, but the problem may be even more widespread than that.
A quick search for "iMessage not working" on Twitter shows that many users are apparently experiencing the problem.

Don't know how I missed that.

I still use the cables I got with the 1st gen nano and iTouch...
