The dock connector I dont believe has anything to do with the home button, but if I do plug in the plug and slightly tilt it upwards, my home button works like new. I think there could be dust accumulation on the contact, but all I know, this does happen to everyone eventually and it sucks.

I guess it's time to make an appointment with an Apple "geek." (why in quotes? geeks that know absolutely nothing, but at least I may get a new button or a phone )

It does. Dust and dirt buildup in the connector can cause the Home button to act up. Also, when disassembling, if one connection doesn't seat properly, the Home button, dock connector and microphone don't work.

I must have taken apart this 3G about 30 times because about every other time that connector would come loose.

I am having a problem with my notification bar. I set my espn app to give notifications to some of my teams whenever they score or at the end of a quarter or game or something, but I'm not getting the notifications when I use the new pull down thing.

My buddy has it set up and I see all his espn notifications but I dunno why it is not working for me. I did add espn scorecenter to the notification center..

On a related, but opposite note, I had an application that I had turned off so that I wouldn't receive notifications from it, yet it kept showing up in my notification center. The fix for me was to delete the app off the device. Add it back and then set up the way I wanted notifications to work for that app again.

So why shouldn't someone who came up with an idea, let everyone copy it for the monetary benefit?? No matter how small or how big you think an item is.

Some likes something the handouts want with the Occupy assholes on Wall Street.

And to add, it's not like Apple is the only company that engages in this type of business tactic with the technology they develop. I'm in no means defending Apple, just pointing out that it's the judicial system that makes it easy for companies, like Apple, to patent things like this. Fix the system and you fix the issue.

I'm gonna patent the installation of toilet paper rolls using the over technique, you patent the installation of it using the under technique and we split the profits. Deal?

Scott Forstall, Senior VP of iOS, is credited with its invention among several other Apple engineers. Perhaps even more interesting is the fact that the patent application was submitted in December of 2005, a little over a year before the handset was revealed.

Yeah, someone had it before Apple...

No one here really thinks about what it takes to keep items that define your company. Even the absolute smallest thing. If you don't protect what ideas, others will make money from it. But most nowadays don't care, with all of the video games, software and music they have stole.

Anybody know about Little Trees? If you don't http://www.little-trees.com/, they have had to fight a lot about keeping the tree shape, theirs. Many try to use it, someone else's idea to make money.

^ Microsoft based, they did not introduce the swipe to unlock per-say, but they did introduce swipe to activate functions... so give or take, same thing.

P.S. Prototype was made in 2004...

and around 3:00 and on, the lady displays what it does.

No, not watching a 10 minute video, that's why I asked where in the video for "swipe to lock" you said 3:00 mark, I watched it showed nothing about swipe lock".

Watch (now) at 4:00, that's a two step procedure. Not as Apple applied for at Patent Office.

Could careless as well, but many just like to bitch that Apple has done, won or did something. Fuck Apple/Jobs has patents for a couple of staircases. They seem to have been around since people needed to get to the higher level of a structure.

watch at 4:08. and what do you mean two step procedure? its like that on iphone too to unlock. 1) hit the button, 2) swipe to unlock.

you can't argue that Apple hasn't stolen ideas in the past. they've stolen plenty. they have taken existing ideas and made them better. that is not inventing things. (this is a dead horse, btw). the difference is, they can file patents all over the place because they have the capital to do so. while little companies like Neonode can't.

but, you don't have to take it from me, here watch this:

I don't care about the whole who did what what. People love to bitch about anything Apple does and I'm bitching right back. Need a little fun this afternoon.

I have my iPhone in front of me and slide to unlock is one swipe, left to right.

BTW, ANYBODY can file for a patent, you don't need a lot of money to do so. What Apple filed for was a design patent for how it works and looks. Many companies do so.

I meant, they can file patents all over the place and go after anyone who treads on them, in court, because they are a big company with big capital.

Two step to lock? I only count one step, click the sleep/wake button at the top.

But the Patent Office just doesn't throw out patents w/o making sure that it's worthy of the filing. And then if someone has a problem, they file with PO before going to court.

Most of the time going to court is because some is using your Patent w/o permission. Maybe one of the legals will pop in here to clear this up.

Argh, need to get a case for my phone. First time actually dropping my phone since the 4 came out.

If I even had my bumper on the phone it would've saved it from the small scratches on the side....

I put the thing in my pocket but for some reason it jumped out
