Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread

iPhone 3G refers to it having 3G data. The iPhone 3GS was the third iPhone. iPhone 4 was the fourth. iPhone 4S is the fifth. The iPhone next year will not be called the iPhone 5, it'll likely be called the iPhone 6. iPhone 5 was a name that the rumorazzi created. Doesn't exist. Nor will it after the 4S, as it'd make no sense. That'd be like the iPhone 4 being called the iPhone 3.

just realized you can tap on the word 'hourly' that is visible just under the city name and it accomplishes the same thing.

I agree. I think it'll be the iPhone LTE or 6 depending on how fast ATT can roll out LTE.
Yum did get an iPhone 4s with a customized Siri that sounds like LeBron. Here's the case:

Apple obviously named the 3G for just that reason, it had 3G, not because it was the third generation iPhone. But in my opinion they set a precedent by doing so. From now one they will either continue to go in order or will stopping putting numbers in the model name completely. iPhone LTE, iPhone Ultralight or whatever. You get the point.
But I'd put $50 on it being called the iPhone 5. Why? Because the average dumbass doesn't haven't to know what we know. He knows lasts years was 4, so this years is 5.
Ever wondered if the other manufactures did the same thing, they would have a higher upgrade percentage? I do. Let's see. Samsung Galaxy, cool. Nexus, cool. Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Really? And I'm in the know...

6) iPhone 6
Makes no sense to have the 6th variant of the iPhone be called the iPhone 5. As you said, they've set a precedent. I don't think they'll stray from the numbering nomenclature as they use it for other products- Mac OS X, iOS 5, etc. Its simple and doesn't confuse people like other manufacturers' branding can.

And no, that case is terrible. I don't want to be sporting Xmas colors year-round.

It should be that the reason for this 'problem' is because there was no iPhone 2. And there was no iPhone 2, because they wanted to name it 3G, because of the new 3G network support. End of story.

Hey guys, had the Iphone 4s for a week now. I've had BB, droid, and an HTC.
The Iphone4s is simply the best all around phone. As far as raw power droid does have a slight edge, but what's the point of hp if you can't lay it down...?
Not one manufacturer can touch apple in terms of fit, finish, "clean", and refinement of usage.
I am not an apple fanboy, it's actually the only piece I own from the manufacturer, but for $200, it is simply amazing! Processing speed is insane and there is no waiting, unlike my useless BB. I looked at other phone features but the package apple offers is just untouchable.
My only gripe is battery life, I have extended it a bit figuring out to change settings so it doesn't drain but all powerful phones are so ahead of outdated battery technology. Once wireless charging catches on and prices go down for the technology, I hope it gets added to mobile devices.
I highly recommend the phone for those looking to update, it will not disappoint.

Yeah, so, I think that's what it means. And you can't argue with me cuz the iPhone Death is made in China. So, it's death.

A little late but Ken if you're looking for a phone with a portrait keyboard then why not the dell venue pro?

But if the 3G S is considered 2nd (or even 2.5) generation then the iPhone 4 should NOT be called the iPhone 4.
This discussion is so stupid...

Like I said, the 3G would have been the iPhone 2 except they decided to call it 3G for the 3G connectivity. That move forces them, marketing wise, to keep the ticker going up. Like said above in a smartass way, 1+1+1+1+1=5. So 3"G"+1 = 4 + 1 = 5.

Ok is it just me or is this no longer an option? When taking a picture with the phone I was always able to tap the screen and the little slide bar would show to where I can zoom in or out. Now it WILL NEVER show up. I've tried many different times and I can never get that fucking zoom bar to pop up, so I can never zoom in to take pics. WTF
