yeah that's a bs article! I don't believe it. that's all speculative. I replaced my phone yesterday and I'm still having the issue. that's the same article where one guy said that before you couldn't see the proximity sensor and now he can in the new one. he's an idiot the PS is right above the ear speaker. I could see it in my original and I could see it in my replacement.

Ok I'll give you that. But if Apple knew of this problem months before releasing the phone and it was such an easy fix that they already have phones out that are problem free mere weeks after initial release then why wouldn't Apple wait until all the phones had this problem fixed before releasing millions of them? Why would the release these defective phones if the knew about it and it was an apparently easy fix?
Or maybe one dude jumped to conclusions too early right after getting his replacement phone and for some reason gizmodo desperate for hits ran the article. they still don't have any concrete evidence.
From what I've heard from the antenna experts www.antennasys.com the only way to fix the problem is to put a physical barrier between the antenna and your body. no special coating will fix it. So unless Apple redesigns the phone to put a barrier between the antenna and your body it's not getting fixed. Apple hasn't done this, therefore the problem isn't fixed no matter what some random guy says.

So far, one of the readers who claimed he couldn't reproduce the problem, was mistaken: Trying in our Manhattan offices, we reproduced the problem right away. Our own replacement—obtained on Monday 12 at the Fifth Avenue store in New York—still has the same antenna problem that all iPhone 4s have.
do you believe in bigfoot too? you believe the government was behind 9/11 too don't you?
there's no facts in any of these stories, no evidence to back any of this up. it's click bait from a site that practices check book journalism.

Going in the completely opposite direction in leaps of faith isn't any better. As far as accusing someone of checkbook journalism, I hope you don't get news from anyone. Because everyone pays for it these days.
You're being quite immature about it, especially trying to equate taking someone at their word about being able to discern whether they had their call dropped versus Bigfoot. I see where Sarlacc is coming from.

I don't see comparasion videos, before or after, no pictures before or after just words. sorry, that's not enough for me.
It's not that I think these people are intentionally lying it's just that they don't know what they fuck they're talking about or they're making a statement way to early. wow they had two calls that didn't drop, OMG it works! No, use it for a few days like you used your original iPhone for weeks and back to me.
Notice I haven't come on here and made a claim that my replacement phone does or does not have the proximity sensor issue that my original phone had. that's because I don't know yet and I'm not going to run off making claims based on what happen on one phone call. that's what these guys are doing.

My phone isn't exhibiting the issues that Whiskers, for example, has been seeing. So either I'm lying, or a difference in production is apparent. I, for one, think it's sad that you can't take anyone at their word.

i'm sorta agreeing with STUNNA
if it truly was a software fix AND they knew this beforehand, they would've fixed it
where i work, we don't release GM build with known bugs unfixed.. i would think bigger corporate like apple would be doing the same thing
now if they really knew this beforehand, i'm not sure why they still released it...
i guess we'll get a clue tomorrow morning

I'm not suggesting it's just a software fix. There could be a relatively minor hardware adjustment. People could be lying. Apple could come out and admit they were wrong, and give reacharounds to people.
I'm just not ready to dismiss any of those possibilities.

Why is it sad? Almost every time I do they end up being wrong. I wish I could take people at their word, I used to but the proved to be wrong all the time so I don't do that anymore. There are exceptions of course, my bosses at work really know their shit and a few people on here who've proven themselves that in certain areas they know what they're talking about.

I tend to not paint people with the same brush that others may have soiled themselves with. Person B deserves the same opportunity that Person A did. But that's just me.
It doesn't really affect me what Apple does or doesn't do about any admission. I'd just simply like a refund if the 'solution' really is to provide everyone with cases.

A wise man once said, 'if you find the company you keep mistreating you, then it is not them with who you should be upset with.'

Analyst Claims Design Fix for iPhone 4 Signal Issue Being Deployed
Thursday July 15, 2010 01:08 PM EST; Category: iPhone
Written by Eric Slivka
TheStreet reports on new research from Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar claiming that Apple has developed an internal insulator to isolate the iPhone 4's antenna connection that has been causing signal reception issues.
Apple has created "a design fix for the iPhone 4 that more adequately insulates the transceiver," said Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, who spoke to the company's manufacturing partners.
Apple has told its manufacturers to alter the iPhone production process to include an internal component that will insulate the defective antenna connection that has disrupted the phone's signal reception, said Kumar. This internal bumper will give Apple a non-cosmetic solution and will presumably avoid the need to change the appearance of the phone, said Kumar.
The report notes that the implied change to Apple's manufacturing process is making its presence known in Apple's U.S. online retail store, where shipping estimates have slipped to three weeks from a 7-10 business day timeframe earlier. MacRumors has also received word that Apple has been delaying some iPhone 4 orders that had been carrying delivery estimates for the next few days, pushing them out to delivery next week while citing "an unexpected delay".
It remains to be seen if and how such an internal insulator would be distributed to existing iPhone owners, either on as-needed basis or through a complete recall. It is also unknown whether such a fix can simply be applied to existing iPhones or if units would need to be swapped out for replacement. Further details from Apple regarding the antenna issue are widely expected to be shared at the company's press conference scheduled for tomorrow.
Kumar's track record is relatively unknown, as he has only recently begun covering Apple. He has been quite vocal on the idea of a Verizon iPhone, claiming in January that Apple had settled on a CDMA-only chip from Qualcomm for the Verizon iPhone while reporting in late May that Apple had given manufacturing partner Pegatron/Asustek the go-ahead for Verizon iPhone production for as early as November of this year. Kumar has also reported that Apple has secured an 8-megapixel camera sensor from Sony for the 2011 iPhone, a claim that obviously has not been verified or disproved yet.

My non-engineering true quick fix. Rotate the antenna space a few degrees to the botton of the phone. How many hold their phone on the bottom edge when talking?

it's taken with my 3GS and the rubber part isn't exactly white, so you could really tell the different color, which adds to the said ugliness
