Apple officially switching to ARM chips. Appears to be across the lineup. No timeline announced. Probably won't be until USB 4 comes out at a minimum. Maybe Intel screwed itself when they allowed Thunderbolt to become part of USB 4. Then Apple had no need incentive to keep using Intel processors.

there was a snippet I read that they said they will continue offering intel chips for many year.

how long is many? Who knows but if I recall the G5 Mac didn’t last that long before being replaced by the Mac Pro.

yup, the Developer Transition Kit Mac Mini doesn't have Thunderbolt.

Only 10Gbps USB-C, 5Gbps USB-A and HDMI 2.0.
802.11 AC, BT 5.0 and gigabit ethernet.

I'm guessing that means no wifi 6?

Tim Apple told developers that they plan to release an ARM based Mac this year and that the transition will take 2 years.

there’s a rumor that a 13in MBP and an iMac will be the first ARM Macs. I don’t buy the t though. I think the MacBook will be first

Damn that nano texture is $450!

I hope that becomes cheaper and available on the laptops, I'd probably ad it. I imagine it'd be cheaper to do on the 13in laptops than the 27in iMac. Apple charges $1000 for the same nano texture on the Pro XDR display

possibly, but there are plenty of people out there that need native x86 support and dual boot into windows.

Also this could mean the refreshed iMac with Apple Silicon could be a year or two away.

is that texture really necessary? interestingly the iMac Pro was not updated to provide that option.

Also base line iMac Pro now starts with the Xeon 10 core chip upgrade option. Nothing else changed.

It's their matte screen option, it's supposed to be better than the matte film

Not necessarily that much more expensive.

I just quickly built a similar 10th gen i9 build on PC Part Picker.

Runs about $3100, but that doesn't come with a 5K display. Has a 4K BenQ 10-bit monitor.
Also no thunderbolt 3 (does have 10gigabit USB 3.2) and normally a 5700 XT comes with only 8GB VRAM.
I did add 32GB of RAM thou.
Also added a 970 Pro instead of the EVO since people say that the EVO is not "comparable" to what SSD Apple offers.

not a typo. The 27 inch iMac still has user accessible ram. So I would buy 32 or 64GB and upgrade it myself.

Just realized it was only the 27 inch iMac that was updated to 10th gen.

So similar to the 13 inch MBP in the base remained at 8th and the higher end was bumped to 10th.

I guess that makes sense if the rumored 14" MBP and 24" iMac based off Apple Silicon are released first.

Should've seen it coming since the 27 inch has the T2 chip, but the SSD are now soldered on to the board.

Would've been nice if they made an m.2 port (or their proprietary connection ala mac pro) accessible behind the memory cover.

I’m actually thinking of going with the 27” iMac now.

was originally thinking a 13” MBP, but then I thought about it more. How often would I actually travel with it. Or would it end up being used majority in clamshell mode. Also they don’t have a discrete GPU.

then I was thinking about an i7 Mac mini, but also no discrete GPU. and if I added on a eGPU+5700 XT, I’d be at the cost of the top tier iMac w/ the i7.

i could go with the base 16” but again I don’t ever think I’ll travel with it. Also not a fan of that size. Also reviews show the iMac outperforming it (which should be expected)

It wasn’t mentioned but apparently the 2020 iMac’s display supports HDR10.

Apple Watch Solo Loop bands are really nice. More comfortable, less bulky, and less weight than the sport bands.

John Gruber figured out that the Solo Loop sizes match up with the Sport Band holes. I used this to determine my size and it fits perfectly

Interesting. Is it stretchy like a rubber band?

it basically makes the watch like a bracelet?

Yes, the texture feels very similar to the sport band but it's much more stretchy.

I hope they don’t loosen over time. My sport band has loosened over time.

anyways I think I won’t be updating my series 3 until the series 7.

not quite that compelling for me to get the series 6.

Only annoying thing was upgrading to 6.2.8.
required 2.1GB, I only had 1.8 available.
I don’t have many apps installed so uninstalling all my apps wasn’t enough.
found out email was taking up 500mb, so I told the watch to only include email from an empty folder.

freed up enough space to update.

Probably won’t be able to update to watchOS 7 since it needs 3.1gb and I have only 2.4gb free.
the 8gb capacity is so limiting on the series 3

I still have/wear/use the OG watch that I bought from my friend when he upgrade to the 2. Now he has a 4 and upgrading so Im buying that...his dad has a 5 that he might sell, so I might get that instead. Depends on what he is asking for it.
