Force RGB mode in Mac OS X to fix the picture quality of an external monitor | i reckon
??
??
How to force RGB in Mac OS X
Download the patch-edid.rb script from the forums thread above and put it in your home directory.
Connect only the external monitor(s) in question (I closed my MacBook lid, for example). The script will make override files for any connected monitor.
Type “ruby patch-edid.rb” in Terminal.
A new folder will be created in your home directory. Move it into the “/System/Library/Displays/Overrides” folder. If Finder tells you that you are overwriting an existing folder, consider backing it up first.
Restart your computer, enjoy your monitor.
To undo the changes, either delete the folder you had copied to the Overrides folder (if it didn’t already exist) or replace it with the folder you had backed up.

Hmmm well reading into it some more it could be an issue with just Dell monitors on OSX only.
Apparently with dell monitors, OSX thinks of them as a TV. So it outputs in YPbPr instead of RGB. That's why it's getting wonky colors and fuzzy text.
What's funny is people who run win 7/8 under bootcamp have correct color and no fuzziness.
Apparently it still does it even under miniDP to DP
Need to figure out how to force it to send an RGB signal.
And NO I'm not buying a new monitor.
(My DVI slot is already taken up by my PC)

Yea I will give it a shot, the mini came with Mavericks.
Not sure if it will work under Yosemite because I heard they added a driver signature check which is giving people who enabled TRIM issues

Damn I did a bunch of shit in color profile to try and remedy it, it's better but still not right

Well I think that fixed it. Got my dell set to RGB, PC, Graphics, Adobe RGB and in OS X the color profile I'm using is called "Display". Honestly don't know where it came from I haven't turned on this Mac in over two years so IDK if it came with the Mac or not.
Shit still looks a little different than the PC but it's doable. From the videos and pics I've looked at I'm not seeing any off colors, maybe over saturated but not as bad as it used to be.

interesting, the miniDP to DP cable i got fixed the color issues I had, its now sending as RGB instead of YPbPr.
But my mac still thinks my Dell monitor is a Television
whatever thou, as long as the colors look right, I'm happy.
now i just need to buy a damn mac keyboard instead of borrowing my moms.

yea the refurbished ones are good as well by apple. they carry the same warranty as a new unit.
That one by B&H is IMO a good deal because its a new unit, and no sales tax too.

FWIW, I have a 13 and I'm starting to wish that I had the 15. For me, 13 is good for web surfing, email, texting. But when I start using it for work (I'm in IT) I am quickly running to plug it into my 24" monitor. I went with the 13 because it was lighter and I have to carry two laptops in my bag. The 13 is a great size for sitting with it on the couch though. First world problems.

I'm dying without a rMBP update. My 2008 Macbook is increasingly getting slower and it's about time to upgrade. The rMBP are about 60 days away from their average refresh, I don't know how much longer I'm going to last. I wish there were more details on what will be different if anything, if a revised machine is even being released.
Ugh... tempted to just buy one now (updated in July) and call it a day.

anyways intel just released the broadwell chips back in Jan IIRC, so those are likely to go into the rMBP

If average update in days is 259 days and we're at day 202, maybe they'll release new rMBP's in April along with the Apple Watch. The 259th day would be Tuesday, April 14.

I hope you are right sir! I'm hoping for that as well. Some days it is just harder to deal with my slow Macbook. Good thing I didn't put Yosemite on that thing.

Apple today sent out invites for a media event that will be held on Monday, March 9 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, reports The Loop. As with most Apple media events, it will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
The event's "Spring Forward" tagline is decidedly time related and March 9 falls one day after the start of Daylight Saving Time in the United States, suggesting the Apple Watch may be the focal point.
There are still many details on the Apple Watch that Apple has kept under wraps, including full information on pricing, battery life, and accessory options, all of which may be revealed at the event ahead of the Apple Watch's April launch. The event could also see the launch of other products, such as the rumored 12-inch Retina MacBook Air or refreshed 11 and 13-inch MacBook Airs, which are due for an update.
