Eh, it's on it's own card. It's not soldered on like the ram is. No reason it can't be replaced. Just give the market time to release the upgrades.

The Kindle Fire is more locked down than any other tablet...apple included. The Nexus 7 is the better comparison.

I'm not just complaining for the sake of not knowing about other alternatives.
The SSD is custom to apple as is the memory.

Numbers are not adding up for me. While I love the look of the retina, I dont see the cost value with it. I would pay the retina cost for more power and lighter, but wondering if someone like me who doesnt do photography needs it.

I think apple should have dropped the rear camera in the ipad mini to cut down the price. Never understood why people used camera on their ipad, cause most likely their phone is a better shooter. And it just looks silly.

That camera cost about $10.... Some don't have phone with a camera. I met two people this pass weekend as such. ANd the camera on the iPad3 is better than a lot of the phones out there.

I guess I would never consider getting that big of a SSD. I said it yesterday, I couldn't even imagine buying a 120+ GB SSD yet alone a 756GB...
#1409
How long before a 13" rMBP shows up at refurb store? Maybe save $200-$250 off regular price?
#1410
For a desktop, I can see your point, I got 256mb and a damn fast spinner. But for enclosed laptops, get what you can buy when you buy it. More and more companies are following Apples lead this way.

Gonna be hard for me to not want the iPad Mini.
1. Good size for reading books (I do love my original Kindle)
2. It's just that "bit" bigger than the Nexus 7 so magazines would still be readable without much constant resizing
3. Ditto #2 for watching movies/TV
4. Works with all the other Apple products I already have.

With Thunderbolt drives and Cloud storage, Im going the other way. I have a 256 GB SSD in my mac now and use about 100 of it with Windows 8 in Bootcamp as well.

Tablets just need a front facing camera for video chatting IMO

External HDDs, the Cloud....I just don't see the need for that big of an SSD.
For instance, let's say Sarlacc here is doing video editing on his rMBP. If you need more space then say the 128GB, it's highly likely that 756GB won't be enough either.
I still follow the line of though that OS, apps, and constantly reused docs utilize the SSD. Not everything.
Especially at the prices they charge for it.

$10?? I dunno somehow i dont believe that, could totally be wrong though. Now i know the ipad 3 had a much better camera than the 2 and OG. The 2 and OG sucked real bad. My NS was a better point and shoot than those things. My dad has the 2. Never seen the new one though so i cant say. But it has the same optics as the 4s i believe? And face it most people with an ipad have a relatively new smartphone chances are that its an iphone 5 or 4s. So the camera is as good, quicker to get out.

On my current laptop I have a 120SSD.....swapped out when my 320GB died.
But I still have a 500GB iMac to merge over as well.
I might for the 2.9 with only a 512 and just deal.
But it leads me to wonder if 8GB RAM will suffice for longevity.

I have a HP Envy and Macbook pro now. I should sell them both and get one 15 inch Retina. Right? Am I right?

Its true. Some Staples are already selling the 32 GB for $249 right now. The 16 GB will drop to $199 and they're saying they might release a gimped 8 GB version for $99. Not sure how true the last rumor is. Also you have to remember the Nexus is pocketable at its size which is the primary reason it was built to be that size which adds greatly to its portability. I don't know how pocketable the new iPad Mini is but based on their side by side it looked a little wider. Its funny how they make no mention of the ppi difference huh. The Nexus 7 also has GPS, a pretty good one actually, which you would probably have to get the LTE version on the Mini for. There's a bunch of pros and cons for both devices but they should've priced the Mini at $299, gotten rid of the iPad 2 and replaced it with the 3 and dropped the iPod Touch to $269 or around there. As a side note, Apple seems to have a bunch of products now covering all size ranges. The haven't done that in a while.

Don't trust cloud, once cloud and cell networks are better, then I might rely on them. But I can see your point.

Its not a must...but a large convience.
remember....just because you have 768 doesnt mean you should use it all....any hard drive shouldnt really be more than 2/3 full or you start risking a total loss or performance decrease.
Maybe Im old school in that when it comes to SSD

^I take back what I said before. If the time is now, go big on the ram. And deal with the smaller hdd...
You can add more storage (externally). Apparently you can't add more ram. So...do it or you'll regret it.

My point is the 13" maxes out at 8GB period. Is it enough to survive.

I dont run VM. I run Adobe Lightroom.....And Adobe has always been notorious for being a RAM hog.
My current laptop...I actually havent maxed out the RAM...Im still at 4GB (because like maharaja mentioned) I use to buy base RAM and upgrade cheaper when it was an option...and I never did with this one.
