For the record, 2.1 has fixed the battery level problems I had with 2.0.x.

are you FUCKING kidding me?

FIFTEEN of my apps were not installed on my iPhone because "one or more errors have occured"

I fucking have more frustrating problems with this single Apple than I ever have with Windows, ever.

Right now I want to drop kick this piece of shit into a porta potty, throw in a picture of Steve Jobs, take a shit on it, then tip the fucker over, without me in it of course. Best of all, once my contract ends, this iTurd will just be a paperweight.... Should make a nice doorstop with the nice case I bought it with.

This appears to be a software glitch as many people I know including myself have dealt with this...only happens to me when I try and perform app updates. One day I'll get it to the Apple Store to get checked out. OTherwise, everything including the apps work fine.

One thing I'm relieved about though, at least my iPhone is up front with me this time. Instead of being a tease and opening the program, only to have it crash soon after, it now says "The application 'HoldEm' cannot be opened," the application I actually paid money for!

I'm gonna try taking it to the Apple store, hopefully I'm just overreacting. Its just been my first love/hate phone. I sound like one of those technologically-illiterate people that get heated over something minor, when its actually their fault

i only have free apps, but several of them don't even load up.

i'll click on the app and then it'll look like it's about to load up. but then it goes to the home screen.

i'm hoping that will be fixed when i update to 2.1

Must be the shitty developers for the apps you guys are using. The apps I use NEVER crash but I also don't have 20 installed. I only have Bloomberg, Facebook, Weatherbug, Remote, SimplifyMedia, Shazam installed but they have been error free for me.

I'm hoping the weatherbug update comes out soon, it's supposed to add the ability to view temperature in Centigrade, this Fahrenheit crap is annoying me.

well...i did a search online.

turns out you can actually turn off the phone. not just clicking on the sleep button on top. but if you click and hold it, the phone turns off.

so i did that, and now the apps are all running.

we'll see for how long...

Actually one of the apps that doesn't even open at all is Hold Em which I think was developed by Apple.....no crashing, just doesn't open period no matter how many times I restart the phone. It was my favorite and most used app too.

I didn't know they had yelp. Thats a must download for me now..... hope it works!

I actually found that link earlier yesterday and tried out resetting it, shutting down and restarting, deleting some programs, and nothing helped. Plus I finally had a nice stash saved up in Hold Em.

Wait, I just went to delete Hold Em and redownload it, and the fucking thing froze while I was in the App Store.

I grow increasingly frustrated..... today I really impressed a customer with my iPhone, he was looking for a GPS unit that listed out directions the way mapquest/google/yahoo does, but I've yet to see one that does that. I showed him how it works on my iPhone and I damn near convinced him to actually get one. Then this shit happens!

Haven't given up hope yet, will visit the Genius Bar tomorrow hopefully. Had an 8-hour shift today and there isn't an Apple store within 30 mins from me so I never got the chance.

Try this -

Deauthorize itunes on your computer.

Uncheck all your apps

Sync....if you have music or anythign that asks you to authorize say NO...just go with it.

When the sync is done, reauthorize your computer.

Recheck your apps, Sync

Should be golden.

And yes, I lost my hold em stash, too. shit happens.

I have 60 apps and I haven't had any problems opening my apps. I don't sync it anymore I just charge it cause there's nothing worth syncing. If I want to take photos off of the phone Vista recognizes it as a camera and I use Windows Live Photo Gallery to import what ever pics I want.

Whats your point other than youre an idiot?

I only sync my phone when I want to add new music, or a movie when I travel. Sometimes, I sync it because its easier to d/l mass app updates through itunes.

Sometimes i want to add my photos to my album on my phone.

and?....

yeah, somehow, I didnt think there was a point.

Does anybody know if there's any way to sort the applications in the App Store by date of release?

Yes.

click itunes store > choose app store > choose browse which is under "quick links" on the right > press ctrl + J and check the box "release date" > then click the top of the release date column to sort by it. you can also right click where it says "name, album, artist, etc" select release date or whatever else you want.

You dont have to wait for an app to finish installing before selecting another one. They got rid of the update all button that was on firmware 2.0 IDK why buy I loved it. With one push and enter your password and all your apps are up to date, no I have to select the app choose install then the app store closes goes back to the last page of the home screen then I got to scroll back to the first page open the app store again and repeat. It's annoying when you get 5+ app updates a day like I do.

Anyone tried to Touch Hockey? Its pretty cool, you can actually play against someone else on a single iPhone. ESPN Cameraman is fun and challenging too, but I prefer the ones at the coffee shops where you spot the different in pictures of naked chicks. But then again that one isn't free....

palringo - free - liked it for the picture and voice features, awesome for that. no landscape though and a lot of times when i exit application i would miss the IMs and it would say im logged in. so missed ims bad make me upgraded to beejiveIM

google earth - free - just because...

i.TV - free - look up local channels on cable or sat, whatever you have useful for me since i have cable. and look up movies and such

shazam - free - awesome, but i don't use it much

myLite - free - everyone uses their cellphones as flash lights so this is useful for those times

photobucket - free - shitty, but it works... most of the time

easywriter - free - lets you write emails in landscape mod, when you actually want to email it, it'll "copy" the text to the actual email application. useful, great idea, but not ideal if u need to reply to an existing one.

remote - free - awesome just tried it, it'll make me even lazier

jellycar - free - cute game i like it

sudoku - free - fun at times

fourfree - free - fun as well, 1 player, and 2 player

fakecalls - free - idk why but i have it. make fake calls...

mazefinder - free - fun sometimes

trace - free - kind of stupid but meh

urbanspoon - free - kinda cool, don't use it much. u can find a random place to eat and set certain preferences.

categories - jailbreak - i use it to organize all these damn games i have, and other applications

beejiveIM - $12.99 i think its $15.99 now - expensive, but best features i found imo. plus i had credit to burn. landscape mode, keeps you logged in on their servers and offers to send you email notifications if you get IMed. supports msn, yahoo, icq, aim, skype(?), gmail, maybe others. auto-away set time or right after. only stupid thing is that you can't click on URLs, they said they'll include that feature in the next version. if they do that and include the features of palringo, man perfect IM

Ok this is a webapp but it's really useful it's called Safari+ and it uses a little trickery to add these feature to Safari without needing to jailbreak.

It adds:

Find in page

Find similar sites
(google.com version)

Find similar sites
(similicio.us version)

Display all images

List all links

Scroll to end

Translate to English

Translate to Finnish

Translate to Swedish

Translate to Danish

Translate to Norwegian

Open links in new window

Open links in same window

Duplicate Page

Find in page is probably the best, I also installed scroll to end. Basically you follow the instructions which aren't very difficult and then when you want to say find in page you go to your bookmarks and choose find in page and you can search within the page you're viewing. Click the link below and it'll make sense.

http://www.ipuhelin.com/en/safariplus/

Also good apps from the app store are the free air hockey game, it's pretty awesome it's called FS5 Hockey, the trace game is pretty neat. Beatmaker which is $20 is the shit, I'm just getting started with it but it should be fun for people who like to make drum music (like me). Sea Dragon which was released my Microsoft is the iPhone version of their Deep Zoom technology which is in Silverlight 2.0, the WorldWide Telescope program if you've used that and their photosynth program. Oh yeah "Translator" which is free is a cool program in which you type in a phrase and it will translate it to buttload of different languages. It even does the naughty phrases like "Tu quieras mi verga en tu boca?" It's great for me cause I like to speak spanish and if I want to quickly know what a word means I just type it in and it translates.

I dont know if i missed it, but check out
Pandora Radio, pretty good streaming music, with wide variety.
Trapster is kinda cool for those of you that do a lot of driving, it warns and can text informing you of speed traps.
Loopt - one a couple of friends around here use. Its kind of neat, and shows what youre doing and location if you choose to allow it.
App sniper is like $.99, and it shows you if apps have gone on sale/how much, and new apps and prices.
App vee - a video review of many applications. It did help a few times, as i knew what i was getting with some paid applications.
I personally am completely on board with Bloomberg, but it smokes the shit out of my battery lol!

I have a ton of applications, i can't advocate many, as a lot of them are junk...

are there a lot available? There are a ton of free ones, but sometimes the substance is worth the money. I have almost 200 apps on my computer, and i use maybe $18 worth of purchased ones, they have all been fairly good..

Ben stein trivia is neat btw. It was on sale and if you like triva, you'll like the game. Good quality!
