WiFi should give you better battery so long as you're always connected to a router and not continually trying to ping for one. 3G will be turned off if WiFi is on. It will be turned on automatically as needed such as when receiving and sending MMS.
Using WiFi should use less battery because the distance between the router and the phone is much smaller in comparison to a cell tower's location unless you live right next to one. The phone won't have to work extra hard to maintain/transmit/receive information. Theoretically, 3G uses less power when its actually transmitting/receiving data in comparison to WiFi. On the other hand, WiFi consumes much lesser battery when its not transmitting/receiving data and just connected. Personally, I've been able to maintain twice the battery life on my phones if my phone is always connected to WiFi compared to running them on 3G. But as always, I turn off WiFi when I'm not near a hotspot.

... couple nites ago, turned on 4G for something and has wifi on too... my EVO used the wifi until I left the house and then used 4G while I was out and then switched back when I got home... when the wifi was on, it automatically suspended the 4G... I was streaming video and music at the time....

It's actually VERY easy to use it. Everything is automated. All you do is pan it left or right. And it's guided by a green box so you can't mess up. Just make sure to keep it pretty steady. It takes up to 8 panoramic picture so it can be REALLY wide. The picture I took above took like 3 or 4 pictures.

... just wanted to know if you could pull off a 360 degree shot...
^That panorama shot is pretty cool. I've always wanted to try it out but keep forgetting. lol. There are apps in the market that'll probably allow you to do 360 degrees but I'm not certain. As far as I know, the Galaxy S is the only one that has it native in the Camera along with its other features such as Night mode, Blink detection, etc.
Android 3.0 Honeycomb SDK was just released a few hours ago. Some new features:
Maybe this finally means Android will get touchscreen acceleration found in the other phones meaning less laggy browser scrolling with flash enabled and menu scrolling. They're also officially supporting multi-core CPUs. Very interesting stuff.

Here's Engadget's Preview using the Emulator:

• A new "holographic" user interface and interaction model -- what we've seen on the Motorola Xoom.
• UI framework for creating great apps for larger screen devices.
• High-performance 2D and 3D graphics.
• Support for multicore processor architectures.
• Rich multimedia: New multimedia features such as HTTP Live streaming support, a pluggable DRM framework, and easy media file transfer through MTP/PTP, give developers new ways to bring rich content to users.
• New types of connectivity: New APIs for Bluetooth A2DP and HSP let applications offer audio streaming and headset control. Support for Bluetooth insecure socket connection lets applications connect to simple devices that may not have a user interface.
• Enhancements for enterprise: New administrative policies, such as for encrypted storage and password expiration, help enterprise administrators manage devices more effectively.

I'm a WinMo phone guy (current htc Touch Pro 2 with custom 6.5.5 rom) and I squeezed out a bomb deal from Sprint on HTC Evo 4G (139.99) vs listed 299.99. My mom also was ready for a smart phone so in the deal I got here a LG Optimus S FREE after rebate. It's smaller than even my TP2 at 3.2in vs 3.7in but here hands are small and for 63yo this momma learns techie thing very expeditiously. Anything I should know?
Turn off Autosync when not needed and the others like WiFi, Bluetooth 4G, either in the settings menu or the Power Control widget. That'll save your battery a lot. Also check out appbrain.com for some app suggestions.

Can't wait for this to be ported even if its some code to the older phones via CM.

Lol. Yeah that vid was pretty bad. I guess the person doing the vid never used the emulator before. Here's their updated video with the screen rotated properly:

And here it is, the big announcement from Sony:
Sorce: http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/27/s...station-suite/
Sony reveals PlayStation Suite framework, store for Android gaming
Sony just dropped a bomb on the Japanese stage -- not a single PlayStation Phone, but a PlayStation Phone experience for everybody. The company unveiled a cross-platform software framework called PlayStation Suite, which sounds rather boring in those words, but what it amounts to is an official PlayStation Store, filled with games for your Android tablets and cellphones. Sony's starting with an emulator for existing PlayStation Portable titles and is promising an Android game store later this year, but soon it might be much, much more: the company's calling PlayStation Suite a "hardware-neutral" development framework to make games portable for all sorts of handhelds.
Sony will sponsor a first-party licensing and quality-assurance scheme called PlayStation Certified, and provide the marketplace as well, likely hoping to attract major game developers to build top-tier titles for mobile and get a piece of the action too. If your device doesn't have have a pop-out gamepad handy, it looks like PlayStation Suite will emulate touchscreen controls, and you won't necessarily need a phone to get in on the action, as Sony says the next-generation PlayStation Portable will be compatible with games developed for PlayStation Suite right off the bat. Doesn't look like we're getting any details on game prices or compatible devices, but we imagine one particular phone will change all that at Mobile World Congress next month.

Sounds like an update to GB may be coming... but the HC on the EVO will most likely have to be a custom flashed ROM
HC will debut for tablets next month and then we will have to wait for a while until it is phone ready...
the dual core EVO 2 should be out in June 2011 and may or may not be running HC... but most certainly GB

The reason why were slow to receive it is because every time a new rom is released, they have to make Sense compatible with Android 2.3. Sprint told me it's up to HTC but they release updates literally every other month so my bets are we'll get it. The phones stats are still too good.
You're right. It will be Android 2.3 first. But before its released by HTC they must update Sense UI to be compatible with 2.3. Had phone 2 days and so far I'm hooked. I downloaded Dolphin browser HD and it's so fast.
sorry for another noob/dumb question... but if, suppose I pick up an unlocked Android phone up here in Canada (like a Nexus ONE or perhaps Nexus S when it arrives), and when I go back to California, I can just drop the sim card in from the iPhone (AT&T) for it to work, right? Do I need to anything with my account?

Ohh and I got ADW launcher and I didnt like it to much. Didnt exactly play around with it much. But I didnt get the same scroll effect I already have, but I was looking and it looks like ADW launcher EX has that scroll like on stock gingerbread. Maybe I'll try it out.
For the android marketplace you can return it within 24 hrs and you get your money back right? Does that go with any app?

(and I've been told that the "AWS" phones would work with T-Mobile with no problems, but I'm with AT&T in the States)
