Mind you the phone has water resistance and water NEVER got on/in it. From reading it's clearly a USB plug issue. I just got this phone like 2 mos ago so I'm calling Asurion even though I cancelled my ATT insurance and line.
I had that on my S8 twice now. Both times it turned out to be a small bit of pocket lint in the charge port and when the phone was in the pocket (on a hot humid days) it must of wicked up some moisture/sweat and set that warning off. A quick shot of compressed air from a can or blowing in the port cleared up my issue both times

Samsung to let proper Linux distros run on Galaxy smartmobes

19 Oct 2017

Samsung has announced it will soon become possible to run actual proper Linux on its Note8, Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones – and even Linux desktops.

Yeah, yeah, we know Android is built on Linux, but you know what we mean. Samsung said it's working on an app called “Linux on Galaxy” that will let users “run their preferred Linux distribution on their smartphones utilizing the same Linux kernel that powers the Android OS.”

“Whenever they need to use a function that is not available on the smartphone OS, users can simply switch to the app and run any program they need to in a Linux OS environment,” Samsung says. The app also allows multiple OSes to run on a device.

Linux desktops will become available if users plug their phones into the DeX Station, the device that lets a Galaxy 8 run a Samsung-created desktop-like environment when connected to the DeX and an external monitor.

Samsung thinks developers are the market for Linux on Galaxy, as it means they “can now set up a fully functional development environment with all the advantages of a desktop setting that is accessible anytime, anywhere”. Samsung's announcement suggests developers will “code using their mobile on-the-go and with Samsung DeX, and can seamlessly continue the task on a larger display.”

There's no word on when Linux on Galaxy will debut. Samsung describes it as “still a work in progress” and offers an email notification service if you'd like to know more.

Initially this was cured by optimizing the software back up to 100% and clearing the USB cache. Then I powered off it completely and powered it back on. It happened again a few days later but it was very humid out when I went to walk the dog. The phone was already plugged into a portable charger and it started blinking off and on for that error. I had bought a Qi charger so when I got back I let it sit there to charge after doing the same steps as before but I let it sit for like 10 mins off so that it can "cool" down as the phone also felt warm. After like 30 it started charging normally again. I think it's a combination of software gremlins and very sensitive humidity detection.

Sounds like you turned on a 'do not disturb / quiet mode' thing accidentally.

(Way too early) Observations from the Pixel 2 XL
  1. The screen is weird. it's not particularly bad in most situations, but the blue shift is real and striking. The color pallet issues are only noticeable when compared to other phones, but the blue shift is a bit much in the dark. I have to put night light mode on a little earlier than I would have wanted.
  2. The battery so far is great. Haven't really had to think about this at all. After a day full of Nav and picture taking, my phone is currently at 48% battery.
  3. The camera is unreal. I loved my iPhone 7 Plus camera, but this thing is just better. Color is great, detail is excellent. The portrait mode is about as good as the 2 camera iPhone 7 plus as well.
  4. The software is just better on Android. The stock Android install is lightning fast without and lag. The OS has a bunch of intelligent nuances that make the experience so positive.
  5. The Google Assistant is quite intelligent. I have been using it on iOS for a while, but on Android it's all native and smart.
  6. Android auto is super wonky and not something I really prefer, but I feel like I will get used to it AND the assistant is still Google Assistant so if I have a problem I just say something
  7. I went with the Google black carbon fabric case. It's a great grip case with pretty good coverage. Altogether the phone feels light but not cheap in the case.
Sample phone shots

Not surprised. Sales are very low. I think Amazon's Fire phone sold better over same amount of time.

I agree with pretty much everything you have said before. My battery has been amazing as well.

As far as the screen goes for color the I feel like the issue might have been that Google appears to have calibrated the screen at 100% brightness. Thing is you pretty much never use the phone at that level. For that matter I use mine at about 25% brightness. If you put it at full the colors look very true to life. I think the fix needs to be some type of active calibaration that changes based on brightness. That all being said I much prefer the screen this way than the way Samsung over saturates everything. Makes things much more natural looking.

I thought the same thing about my OG lil' Pixel, about the battery life. At first I was like, "he'll yeah! The world is mine MFer, I can go all day and most if the night."

And now, a year on, I'm like "hey man, you got a plug I can use? I just gotta get a little fix to hold me over until I can get to my desk/car/couch/etc."

But, since the thing knows how to quick charge, I've got a high current battery pack that'll juice it up to unable in a few minutes.

TL;DR: I'm convinced that the battery impressiveness is inherent in any new phone and is only because of the antique one has been using.

I agree a good bit with what you are saying. But the best I have ever gotten on my OG Pixel XL for on screen time was about 4.5hrs tops for on screen time. Most of the time it was more like 3.5-4hrs. Yesterday I got 6.5hrs on screen time while using GPS for 3.5hrs of that and 2hrs of HD video streaming which was going on at the same time as using the GPS. So right now I think it is better. Time will tell though.

Thing is, it hasn't worked for months. I give feedback via the web, etc. but nothing...

I know I can send via SMS or email, or even just access my search history in the maps apps on the phone, but it's less convenient.

Anyone else use this feature? Does it work, and if so, are you on a Nexus device?
Sorry just noticed this. I use this feature all the time on my 6P and it works great! Probably not what you wanted to hear but it's certainly not a Nexus device issue.

My new P2XL just shipped and should have it on Wednesday. Apparently I should look forward to doing a warranty exchange in the coming months for one without blue shift and burn in.

So you are saying not everyone has the blueshift issue at any angle but direct? If so guess I will be doing one as well.

Not sure but I can't imagine they won't fix the issue with all the negative press on it.

I have yet to hear from anyone who doesn't have blueshift. That screen just has it. The burn in and color calibration are bigger problems. The burn in is particularly concerning.

So was doing some testing for battery life. Used it till it shut off just a few minutes ago. I had taken a screen shot at 1% about 5min before it powered down figuring it was close. I took the phone off the charger yesterday at about 6:30am. I am not sure why wifi shows as 0% but I have been on wifi most of the day. I really liked the old Android battery screens better that showed wifi and cellular signal strength data as well.

Just got mine yesterday. Definitely has the blue shift and it is noticeable. I'll wait for a fix to come out for it and then warranty it for a new one. Other than that, I love the phone.

I don't know how they can create a fix. The blue shift isn't a software issue. It is a screen issue. I can't imagine they are going to make an entire new screen design at this point in the process.

That's what I'd expect. It's a big deal and I'm shocked this even went past the basic design phase given how obvious it is. Everyone noticed it in about 30 seconds, it's not like a one in a million chance of it occurring.

I don't think that it's a new design though, it seems to be a mfg defect.

6P was awesome until it decided to randomly shut off with 35% battery left.

Maybe not with the camera alone.

But I can personally testify that benchmarks make a difference.

I like my LG V30 for what it's good at, but there are work related things that are hard to do with the LG V30, things that the 7 Plus handled very easily.

The LG V30 gets jittery and quirky with the exact same tasks that the iPhone 7 Plus performed with ease...exactly the same things.

Even with animations turned off in Developer Options, the V30 still can't handle it.

I'm sure the 8 Plus and iPhone X will do even better than the 7 Plus.

Optimized iOS for now will always dominate, which is why the Essential phone has failed so badly as it has the specs but a very standard Android with zero optimization, so it is slow and sluggish.

My Note 8 is not as fast as iPhone 8 or iPhone X, but it's flawless with great pen function and the best screen on the market. It's been so far an amazing work horse.

PS A $1200 phone with inferior parts and with locked hardware and software - to me it's just ludicrous.

I confess that the Intel modem's restrictions are annoying.

Then they hobbled the Qualcomm modems so that you won't be able to buy a version of the iPhone that's better than the others.

Pixel android is a smarter, better OS with better services native and better AI.

I have had every Nexus phone that was available to me being on Verizon and all. First one was the Galaxy Nexus. Then I went to the HTC M8 as I have always been a fan of HTC build quality since the WindowsMobile days. Then once they were carrier independent I have had all Nexus/Pixel phones now. The updates and speed of vanilla android just can't be beat in my opinion. Only negative against them used the be the cameras and now they have nailed that.

I don't think that it's a new design though, it seems to be a mfg defect.
The burn in issue might be a big deal but I just don't see how the blue tint is that big of a deal. I don't notice it. I mean how often do you really use your phone off angle? You really see the blue on a regular basis?

I have to say my nexus 5 made by LG was the best phone i ever had until i bought the 6P
The 6P was a really good phone for sure. Still carry mine with me when traveling cause it doesn't do the carrier check for hot spot subscription so if I need to I can pop my sim in it for wifi. Honestly the only thing better on the Pixel over the 6P ended up being the camera.

The blue tint is a big deal to me when holding the phone looking at the screen with even a minor tilt up. The worst is when half the screen tints blue and the other half is fine. I don't really care about left/right off angle but up/down is worse. I think I've started to get used to it but I definitely saw it all the time when I first got the phone.

The 6P was an amazing phone, if it weren't for the battery issues I'd still keep it as a back up.

Strange I don't have the issue with blue tine partial screen. On mine it seems to either be there or not. Would be annoying if only half had the tint. Like you said though I have gotten used to the little bit there is and unless I purposely look for it I don't really notice it in everyday use.

I have never seen a half-tint personally. Mine is just blue off axis, but most of the time when it's a big problem it's late and Night light is on.
