I'm contemplating both as well. I have the Note 5. Great phone but it's starting to show its age.

Note 8... I am all in x two phones tomorrow ... NOTE 5 has gotten more slow at this point... Nexus Six is fine but lil old in the tooth...LOL.. T mobile service is much better than Sprint and a lot cheaper for more lines even... and I am so done with waiting for things to go on sale.. I just pray for the ability to be able to buy them at full price and have been really blessed thus far.... yay!
Can you plz tell me what solidified your decision to go with Note 8?

Samsung phones since 2009 have been our mainstay...
I have had almost every brand of phone including our friend Apple and have had the best service from the phones themselves.. very trouble free... and when one of the phones did have a cracked screen from a fall onto a tile floor without a case, Samsung quickly replaced the screen for a minimal charge and even called me from the service center to make sure that I was happy with the returned unit.
My wife has been using phones from the NOTE series since they started and all of the ppl around us complained that it was such a HUGE phone... blah.. blah.. blah.. for years... but look who's winning now... IKR... LOL
I actually love the S- pen and the huge screen... Samsung is the only brand that stuck with the Pen and has actually made it useful.. it takes me back to when I had a Palm Phone with a stylus... hated to see that heavy weight leave my life but I never got that same "feel" of a truly remarkable device again in my hand until the Note came about... so, those are a few of the reasons... most of the really sick features of any of the flagship phones are either on another flagship phone or spread out onto several devices... this gives you all of them in one package... I love a Phablet... I am a phabletphile... hahahaa ( new word?)
I really don't carry a phone on my person most of the time, so its OK for my phone to be "way too big"... I never carry it in my back pocket and the occasional ride in my scrub pocket is a short jaunt at best...
Hope this helps...
any questions?
Fire away...
I will check back later if anyone has any...

So I pre-ordered the Note 8 from Verizon. With trade-in value ($336), it will cost me $26/month (24-months) plus a one-time $30 activation fee.
For the freebie offer, I'll choose the 128GB card/wireless charger. (Have to do that through Samsung after the phone arrives on the 14th/15th).
They also gave me $100 off an S3 Gear Frontier ($249.99) and waived the overnight shipping fee and activation fee for the watch. Watch will be here tomorrow!!
What about cases? I'm not harsh on cell phones and a basic clear case has worked fine for me. Been looking at the Spigen Note 8 cases on Amazon. (There are a ton of Note 8 cases on Amazon). I kind of like this one:
There's also this one from Lumion:

I have sworn off Samsung phones twice now. I'm very careful with my devices too... I still have a Moto X used for over a year, never put a case on it and it doesn't have a single gouge or scratch on it.
The Spigen cases I've used were nice, but from what I've seen the clear cases tend to get discolored over time. Like a semi-opaque brown. People love them otherwise.

Sammy's are nice at first but after a while they lag like a bitch. My S7 Edge is following suit with my Note 2 and 4 (both of them). Mind you all were acquired via insurance claims except for the Note 2 which was a $1 before it got popular.
I'm discouraged by the Samsung phones. I've seen many benchmarks with the same new Snapdragon 835 processor on other phones and they are faster and stay this way. If can I root my Note 4 and remove all Samsung bloatware I can use my phone for at least another year, right now it's just lags, especially in Chrome.
I'm gonna hold out to see how LG V30 does in comparison to Note 8, Sony XZ. Phones are now around $1K so I'm not in a rush to purchase something I'll hate.

I was so tired.. stayed up late, but the pre-order site wasn't running until close to midnite CST ... now busy with our friend Hurricane Harvey
plan to do the pre-order this weekend
NICE
that Spigen case is basically the same one I have had on my Nexus 6 for about 2 years
best case... shows off the phone with excellent protection
Our whole fam uses Spigen on all of our phones
been doing it for years now
I love my phones, but will drop them from time to time.. LOL

switched off iphone to the samsung s8+ last week. it was an awful experience adjusting to android. i'm still adjusting, but the way samsung has interfaced with the android OS is really good.
so far im enjoying this phone, it is way more feature packed than the iphone for sure. ive been using the phone to game (@2960x1440) and it flies through them. the infinity display with the snapdragon 835 are a perfect match

Verizon has shipped my Note 8 !!. Guess I better make up my mind on a case.....
I think I'm going with the LG V30 mostly because it has the B71 band (600mhz) support for Tmobile.. Note 8 is better, I'm tired of dropped calls

FYI, if you get a Note 8 and want one of the 2 free packages (360 camera or wireless charger/SD card), you have to install the Shop Samsung app and give it access to your contacts. Samsung claims it doesn't actually access your contacts, but they need that permission to access the IMEI and MAC address.
I'm not an expert on phone access/permissions, but I'm skeptical that IMEI and MAC address can't be accessed except through Contacts. Can anyone fill me in on this? The FAQ segment is:

Nokia is promising that all their phones will receive timely updates. Some users even reported getting security fixes before even Pixel devices did.
They don't have many phones but it would be nice if they could sustain it. The camera on my gf's Nokia 830 looks great for a 3 year old phone.

All of a sudden, can't upload files to Onedrive from Android
S6 Edge. Android 7.0. Verizon.
Can't upload any files to OneDrive. Started about 10 days ago. The system updated about the same time (on Aug 15 and Aug 29), so I'm wondering if that is the culprit?
Error message: "The selected item/s couldn't be uploaded to Onedrive"
Only found one thread on the issue with no resolution as yet:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-any-more.html
Anyone else with Android seen this issue / error?
P.S. Note 8 arrived today, probably won't have time to mess with it until Saturday...

My ONLY issue is I wish they made glass screen protectors that didn't "float" above the screen and decrease sensitivity. Makes me remember why I hate those plastic screen protectors sooooooo fucking much.
Still getting used to everything, but I can answer some questions.

Google ‘in final stage of negotiations’ to buy HTC’s smartphone division, report claims
September 7th, 2017
HTC could have been the dominant device maker Samsung is today, but the Taiwanese company suffered financial defeat after defeat no matter how great its Android offerings were. Google, which is already tapping HTC to make its Pixel and Pixel 2 phones, is apparently interested in HTC’s ailing mobile division, and reports say that the parties are in the final stage of negotiations for a Google takeover.
Google is only after the mobile arm of HTC, Chinese-language Commercial Times explains. That means HTC as a company isn’t for sale, and the Taiwanese manufacturer will still continue to develop virtual reality products after the purchase would be completed.
Neither company is ready to announce anything, but a deal could be reached by the end of the year, the report notes.
If accurate, this wouldn’t be the first time Google has bought a mobile device maker. We all remember Google’s 2012 $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola. At the time, we thought that it’ll help Google manufacture better Nexus devices, but Google never merged the Android and Motorola teams, choosing to treat Motorola just like any other Android device maker.
The whole thing turned out to be a financial disaster for Google, which ended up selling Motorola to Lenovo only two years later, for less than $3 billion.
Let’s just hope this time around Google will actually put to good use the resources of HTC, and conceive better Pixel handsets.
If Google isn’t bidding for HTC, then someone should. According to Digitimes, HTC’s August revenues were the lowest in 13 years, which is troubling news. If it’s not Google, then someone else will probably buy it.

The Samsung quick transfer app (whatever its called) that allows you to connect the new phone to the old to transfer all of your existing data, worked flawlessly. Passwords copied over, texts, pictures, damn near everything. I am a fan. I went from a GS6 active to this, so both being Samsung, may or may not have had something to do with that.
The IRIS scanner is pretty quick.. A little quirky, but quick.. Seems like it has gotten quicker as I have been using it. You have to be pretty close to your phone and open your eyes wide. They say 6-10" or so, but I feel its much closer to the 6" than the 10". Honestly, I don't see myself using it a ton, but it is convenient if lighting conditions are right.
I don't think you will spend much time "hunting for the sensor".. I have been using it for a day and already know where its at and feel comfortable with it. I have noticed that with the case I have (Spigen Tough Armor) , its a little harder to hit it with my left pointer finger than it is my right. Neither is "hard", but maybe a little more challenging to place your finger correctly on the sensor. Feel the edge of the opening on the case, slide your finger down and its right there (that's what she said).
As far as too tall.. Again, I don't have baby hands, so the size is 'ok' to me. Took a little adjustment, but it's fine at this point. I was a little leary on that too, but once I got it and have gotten used to it, all is right in the world. Kind of the same thing the last time you went to a bigger phone.. A little odd at first, then it becomes normal and smaller phones just don't do it anymore.

Yeah, been watching the reviews roll in on Amazon for the various glass protectors available so far for the Note 8 and they're not very good to date.....
Nom Nom Nom Nom
Yeah.. i was curious after the edge came out to see what was going on with glass screen protectors and read all of the reviews, so i kind of already knew what I was getting myself into. That is probably the only gripe so far that I have with the phone. I screwed up the first plastic screen protector so I put on the second one. Which now has a spec of dust under it.. GRRRRR. I'm really thinking about saying screw it and not using one at all.
