I have never had good fortune with scree protectors... guess it depends on your use... My nexus is OLD... LOL ..but has no scratches at all... I was actually looking forward to just enjoying the edge-less screen

My S7 Edge saved my ass for Hurricane Irma. First off, if you had T-Mo or Sprint, you might not have service right now or it's spotty. Plus people who had iPhones with ATT still couldn't use data like I could. I get it that towers going down was part of the problem but was very happy with ATT for the most part and my Sammy.

I still can't pull the trigger on a new Android. Note 8 is slightly better than S8+, is it worth $1K? LG V30 is my second choice, but this brand has bootloop issue, which means I must purchase an insurance plan for it, and I'm not a fan of their camera lenses, after many reviews, they are not as sharp as Samsung. Plus if iPhone reveals today on-screen Touch ID, I'll just stick to my Note 4.

I also dislike not having access to the battery, if your phone freezes up, and you can't soft reset it, what do you do? You wait for the battery to die so it can reload itself?

I've owned LG phones from the G2 all the way up to my current V20. I have been fortunate that I've never had an issue. Guess you could say I'm an LG loyalist. The V20 is the smoothest and "classiest" phone I've ever owned, ZERO legging. And dual camera's front and rear are awesome. Also stayed true with removable battery. Perhaps check it out as more affordable option in the mean time. Guarantee you'll like it. Go to Youtube and do 'x' vs 'y' phone..

Any thoughts on the iPhone X? It's pretty much Note 8, but with a much faster processor, better face recognition unlock minus the S-Pen. Would you jump ship? Or the flexibility, true multi-tasking and no iTunes of Android supersedes A11 processing speed?

I'm stuck in a weird place. I think for the first time in a long time, I will keep the same device for two years.

I had an OG iPhone, because there wasn't much like it at the time. Then I went to Android for the variety, mainly having a bigger screen choice. 4.65", which people said then was "way too big" and "unwieldy"

Now on iOS again, been keeping track of Android phones and still haven't seen anything that would bring me back.

I've switched multiple times as well between iOS and Android. I have yet to see anything that would bring me back as well.

I'll probably be keeping my Iphone 7 until it craps out, and if it's anything like the OG iPhone I had it probably will be 6-7 years before it goes.

I still have my Samsung Tablet, (for my kids) but have noticed the battery dies fairly quick.

Well, I just learned that if you try to activate a new Verizon device after 11pm local, it won't allow activation until the next day, e.g. after midnight....

Is it worth getting insurance plan on your phone? I'm with T-mobile now. I think its like $12 a month plus a deductible if something happens? I never had insurance on my phones, as I never paid $1K for one.

I have insurance. I may actually cancel it though. 12 extra a month, then have to pay $100-200 deductible (can't remember) if something happens to it. I've used insurance before and all they do is send you a refurb phone.

In over 15 years, I've never damaged a cell phone, not even a scratched/cracked screen. No insurance for me, knock on wood

Note 8 is activated, so far, so good. Installed "Shop Samsung" and uploaded a copy of my Verizon receipt. Free gift (128 GB SD card and wireless charger) is on the way!

Will be setting up my Gear S3 Frontier watch later today

I've had some form of Android wear for the last ~5 years. That allows me to read/check email and texts and if I want, answer the phone, without ever having to reach for my phone. In addition, if I'm working, I'll be wearing my BT ear piece which has voice activated answering and dialing so I never have to fumble for the phone in my pocket. All of the above cuts down on accidents

which leads me into this bullchit google eco system...
the New Google "Feed" sucks.
i dont give a fuck about Taylor Swift.
I dont give a fuck about Dancing With The Stars.
I do care about weather and commute times, as that's more pertinent than bullshit celebrity gossip, so why is the more relevant info regulated to secondary tab?
stupid google ecosystem...

If I understood what you meant about soft reset i.e. press and hold the power button until option menu pops up to power off, power off and restart, or airplane mode; then other way to do so is to press and hold the power button and down volume simultaneously for about 10 seconds and it will restart....FYI if you didn't know

I believe this works for almost all android devices. I have done it on my Nexus tablet and Sharp Aqua Cyrstal

always insurance ... I guess since I have always had flagship phones... always insured ...all of our phones... even the beaters... once in a while i have scored a much better phone 2/2 phone broke and there was no replacement so I got a much better replacement phone new in the bow...

just too much in a small space that can go wrong.... most ppl spend more than $12 on coffee in month ( starBUCK$) and I always spend more than than that on a bottle of wine and we drink wine almost every night... LOL

I AGREE...the less active your vocation or lifestyle the less likely you are to "hulk-smash" your phone... when I was younger and traveled alot in cars and planes my phone was in my hand alot and would take a spill... one even went down the sewer (yuck) ... now that I am doing mostly family /homebody stuff the phone rarely gets jacked... still does b/c I am admittedly clumsy with stuff... I broke the clasp on my Rolex about 3 years ago ... just got another one this week ... LOL

Well, for the Note 8 buyers/potential buyers, when considering insurance/no insurance, here's a tidbit of useful info:

If you crack the front glass, to replace it, the back glass panel has to be removed first. It's a bit of a chore and will probably add to the normal cost of having a glass panel replaced if you don't have insurance. Food for thought....

VERY random tidbit from that same link / thanks again nfnsquared

IP68 is a defined rating. Basically 5 feet (1.5 meters) for half an hour with pressure shifts (can include phone and water movement).

IP67 is 1 meter maximum pressure (device not moving, water still) for 30 minutes.

Fudge! So which insurance plan would you pick? And do I REALLLLLY need it? The only phones that I ever had to replace were iPhones

https://uncarrier.t-mobile.com/premi...otection-plans

Should I go with regular Jump? $12 a month?

Edit: PS Mind you if you do decide to jump in a year to a new phone, you will again pay a down payment...
