Nah, I think since he talks more like a _____ .Yarra mean?

p.s. 4.4 update does nothing for the Google Now app at all. That is updated via the Search app.

Like its been said before, KitKat doesn't bring much of an update visually but they did a lot of under the hood changes. Less RAM usage and the some speed boosts here and there. If you guys haven't tried it out yet, check out ART. Its supposed to be replacing Dalvik in the near future and its supposedly already bringing some speed boosts in its current state even though its not fully baked yet.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11...uts-in-kitkat/

http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11...ll-get-better/

You have to enable it in developer settings. Also note that some apps may not work with ART yet considering it is a WIP. Also if you want the translucent notification shade and software buttons, you have to sideload the Google Experience Launcher apk that's currently only found on the Nexus 5. Unfortunately, the Nexus 10 will not show translucent bars in KitKat (at least officially) because of hardware limitiations (Dan Morrill says it was wasting GPU processing that they could be using elsewhere):

http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11...-apk-download/

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2510252

On that note, I just picked up a 32 GB 2013 Nexus 7 in lieu of the $50 Staples coupon from last week! Staples ran out by the time I wanted to pick one up so I had to wait a week to get mine. This thing is snappy with KitKat on it. Already bootloader unlocked and rooted. As fast as my HTC One and I'm loving the screen. So much sharper than the original version. Gonna try ART after it reinstalls all my apps. Stupid slow internet where I'm at.

Such impulse. Geronimo!

p.s. "Droid" is only used for a certain line of phones by Motorola on Verizon.

Also 4.4 was made to run on a more broad range of phones whether it be Quad-core, Dual-core, or even higher end snap dragon single-core processors. Google finally saw the writing on the wall that some 65-70% of all Android phones were still running 2.3 gingerbread. Google is also making more newer Google play apps more compatible with older versions of Android (2.3+).

I cant wait for Samsung to update the gs2 and newer models with 4.4 where they'll all get Galaxy Gear support which is my next man toy i purchase...lol.

I'm a little confused about the G2... is the battery moveable? And can you expand the storage?

Just watch all the reviews on Youtube tech sites put up. I personally us CNET.com reviews when buying tech.

No and no for everyone, but the Korean version.

and CNET reviews are very meh. They are as useless as The Verge's nowadays.

I've had my Nexus 5 since Friday.

Quite possibly the best phone I've ever owned.

Still getting used to the consolidation of Google Hangouts and your SMS messaging, but now I can see why people like this or prefer it. It's just more convenient.

I've been using ART since Friday and its amazing. The input/touch lag on the keyboard and scrolling is almost nonexistent now. The device feels almost 1:1 when dragging and touching things. Feels very close to an iOS experience. Now I won't say its 100% because there is still some animation jitter but wow it's a totally different experience than running Dalvik. Titanium Backup doesn't work with ART but people are saying switching between Dalvik and ART is just a matter of minutes when doing so. So if you're gonna change to ART restore with Titanium first then switch to ART. At least until Titanium is made compatible with ART.

y'know? I was thinking, I've read several people's comments (not here, but in FB) that they are fed up with iPhones, but one of the only reasons why they're not switching is because they have already paid for a lot of apps in iTunes... Why doesn't Google "pay" for some of those apps to lure more people over? So, as an incentive, they could perhaps give out $100 worth of Google Play Store credit for new accounts? Just a thought. (or maybe $50 or whatever)

I am wondering when app makers who sell for both marketplaces will offer iOS/Android apps for $2.00 each or both for $3.50.

There are a lot of apps from iOS that hasn't been ported over to Android.

Apple's App Store is much more profitable than Android so most developers don't bother porting over. Only big companies pay their developers to learn the Android API and port their code from iOS to Android.

right, which is why I said just give people credit as an incentive, rather than saying something like "We'll pay for ALL your apps that you had in iTunes" or whatever.

But how can Google keep track of all that? It seems like the only system would be the honor system, and we all know that won't happen with iOS users

There's no way for Google to officially track people's iTunes purchases. And I think even if Google tried something like that, Apple's lawyers will mobilize for deployment.

you're not getting my point... Google wouldn't, so a simple credit to Google Play Store would be the incentive. yes, a lot of apps aren't at Google Play Store (yet), but it'd be like "here's $100 (or $50) for 'our' apps..." and just leave it at that.

mdk is right. There is no way to properly regulate that.
Off the top of my head, what would constitute a new account?
Does making a new gmail account count?
What about the millions that already have an existing gmail account?
How will you control the millions of slickdeals/fatwallet/reddit people that will create new accounts just to exploit this free money?
How would you be able to tell that person has never had an Android phone before?
How would you know they only had an iPhone before this new phone?
What's the best way to figure out which apps that iPhone user bought, and at what price at the time?
... and so forth.

Too many issues and opportunities for a clusterfudge. If people are really fed up with their iphones, they'd suck it up and move and not look for free handouts and even more hand holding than Android already gives for new users to switch over. You don't see the same being done in reverse.

You'll never see this from Apple's chairman:

Not to insult you, but that's a terrible idea. What is the criteria to get the $50 from Google? First time Google user? How does one prove coming from iOS to Android?

I see great exploitation in that idea. Exploitations where app developers would exploit in getting the credit, buying their own app, and reap the money from Google.

well, it was just an idea to get more iPhone users to jump ship..

I just keep reading people saying how they'd switch, but won't because of too many paid apps in iTunes... even my wife has said that.

Excuses...

And since the Nexus 4 OTA update is getting more widespread now, I shall leave this link for those that are whining about why their phone looks so different, where are all the Kit Kat stuff they read about on generic tech sites:

http://tech2.in.com/news/smartphones...ormance/921344

Not even holiday season and I already hate playing tech support for friends & family. Sometimes I wish I was just a clueless iPhone user.

Here's a large Samsung phone to ignore

http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/25/s...alaxy-grand-2/

The Galaxy Grand 2 is another big Samsung phone (5.25 inches this time), but while it might share the screen-size with the Galaxy Note family, there are a few hardware changes that make this handset more middleweight than flagship. There's 8GB of base storage, with microSD expansion up to 64GB, a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and no stylus. The rear-facing 8-megapixel camera also might not stand up to comparisons against the higher pixel-count varieties. Compared to the original Galaxy Grand, which housed a limp 800 x 480 WVGA screen, the sequel's incrementally bigger display now cranks that up to a passable 720p. The phone will also arrive running Android 4.3, in white, black and pink color options. There's still no LTE on the model, but (at least?) there's dual-SIM slots which means the smartphone is likely to make a global roll-out at a presumably moderate price. When we hear the specifics, we'll let you know.

G2 battery life is awesome. Left the house yesterday morning with 80% and forgot my charger. Didn't use my phone as much as usual, but still a good amount. I had 40% left this morning.

Its funny, I'm somewhat known as an Android advocate in my family, but when an iPhone person asks me what to get, I tell em go get the iPhone again. I'd rather not deal with the headache of their transition.

I tell them that sometimes too, not for the same reason though. As we all know, sometimes people get on a new device, especially completely different OS, and they don't give it a chance, right away, start ranting and complaining... and the last thing I want is for them to call me up giving me the guilt trip

Omg this is why I stop trying to suggest phones to non-tech savvy people. My friend wanted to switch to Android cause he was tired of his iPhone 4S. I know he's a cheap dude so I suggested the N5. He got the N5 and now is complaining to me that it's so much harder to use and he misses the simplicity of iOS. Ugh guilt tripping me when all along it was his own damn decision to make.

Two solutions:
A. Have him download this and it will solve most of his problems:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...pier.launcherg

2. Guilt trip him for not being smarter than a toddler.
