Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
OK, for real this time...
Need to replace a Verizon DroidX in the next month or so...
Planning to get a droid M but I am wondering if there is anything comparable that is newer or soon to be released. I realize the M came out 9/2012, but just wondering...
Razr M is currently offered for $50.
Also, verizon site says the M ships with 4.1. Anyone know if it has been upgraded yet to 4.2? Think it will get KLP?

The M has been on 4.1 since November according to their website:
https://motorola-global-portal.custh...news/g_id/1949
^You can check any update schedule on their site above. Motorola has seemed to turn it around in terms of updates. With that said, there's no mention of any 4.2.2 updates yet although maybe the manufacturers may skip it in favor of KLP since its a minor update. If I had to guess, the M will probably get KLP. It won't be right away but it'll eventually get it and should probably be the last update for that phone.
If you haven't seen it yet, Motorola is offering a deal right now in terms of a $50 Play Store Credit if you buy a Motorola device.
http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers...redirect=false
The M is included and pretty much any recent generation RAZR phone is. If you buy it straight from their website, the credit is applied immediately. If you buy it from another store, you have to fill out a rebate form. The offer ends on 3/18/13. A few days after the IV's announcement so maybe you can hold off until then.
I'd wait for Google I/O. See what KLP has to offer. If its a huge step up from 4.2 or not. Although this is something your wife may not care about, in that case you take the phone lol

Probably no new phone models for Verizon in the next month. More like May, onward with the way MWC went. Samsung will be announcing the IV but that won't be out in the US until later most likely.

I can get the M for $50 at costco with their accessory bundle, then get $50 in play credit.

Rumor: Galaxy s4 to introduce eye-tracking that will autoscroll text as you read

damn thats pretty tight haha
I feel like that would eat up battery though. Smart stay just needs to check up on your eyes before the time your screen is set to turn off, its not always looking.

Did you guys see this? I was wondering why my scanner was showing all blue this morning.

The guy said it runs from Lake Havasu to Santa Maria to the Mexico/California Border which he estimated to be roughly 25,000 square miles. That's a pretty huge portal link! I wonder if he left the keys to people around the area or it'll decay in the next few days if the Enlightened don't take it down by then.

Seems like Google is doing some type of "swarm" or location aware research. They never do anything without a future purpose.
Google is 100% data mining.
Any free service they offer, while great, only serves to support that.
They may have peaked for their data mining though, and now are using the empire they built to achieve other goals, (ChromeOS, etc.)

I believe we saw the first fruits of some of the data mining in the recent Field Trip app update in the Play Store where they added more POIs. They probably got those POIs from Ingress submissions:

Its pretty cool cause you find all these new POI that you never knew existed via the Portals. I used to eat at this burger joint close by and I opened up Ingress and only realized it was a Portal. Little did I know, it was also a pretty significant POI for the city's history because it was the original location of the community college in this area before they moved a few blocks away to expand. I wouldn't have known that small gem had I not known it was a portal. A lot of the portals are user submitted and they're usually art work/graffiti or POI in and around the city so you get to see cool stuff you never knew existed around your area while at the same time playing a game.

It takes a few weeks to do it and you lose all your experience points.
Google is having a 1 year anniversary sale on the Play Store. List should be changing throughout the week:

Some free stuff and discounted apps. You don't need an Android device to take advantage of these btw.

I'm pretty sure I told you to go Enlightened, I think that's what you meant to say. But you can still go to your team's portals and do things like recharge resonators, or look for possible links
Yo is300eater, when do you return to the states?
The new Google+ layout with the giant cover pic and circle profile pic is quite cool. Ridiculously huge covers are crazy, but nice to see some forward design.

I'll be coming home the last week of this month, but it's only going to be for about a week. More or less to attend a rather important wedding.
Oops, I read your post wrong, I thought you said that I told you to pick resistance. But anyway, like I said, you can still earn a lot by doing stuff to portals (of your team), in some ways you actually get more points. But whatever you do, DO NOT hack your own team's portals, you get no points and will piss people off, they'll request for a

If you're talking about the burn-out period of hacking portals after a short amount of time, the burn-out period only applies to you so anyone else around the area can still hack that same portal when you can't. Just as an aside, my area is filled with a lot of Resistance portals and I hack them every time I go out to lunch to obtain resonators and xmps and portal keys.
Read this for info on hacking portals:
What does the "Hack" button do?
You can "Hack" any portal (friend, neutral, or foe), so long as it is in range. Usually the portal will give you some items. If you try to hack an enemy portal, then it costs three times as much XM, and you will get fewer items (I think), and the portal will zap you for a small amount of damage, but you get +100 AP (100 experience) for audacity.
When you hack a portal, it triggers a five-minute cooldown before you can hack it again. If you hack a portal four times during a four-hour span, it will say “the portal has burned out” and the cooldown will last for the rest of that four-hour span. The cooldowns (both five-minute and four-hour) only apply to you, though; your cooldowns won’t stop anyone else from hacking.
Rarely, it’s possible to hack a portal and then immediately hack it again. This seems to be caused by server lag, where the server doesn’t realize that you’re supposed to be under a cooldown. If you “multihack” a portal in this way, it only counts as one hack toward your four-hacks-in-four-hours limit.
There’s an inventory limit of 2000 items. If you have more items than that, you can’t hack.
Hacking a portal costs 100 XM per level of the portal if the portal is friendly. It costs three times that if the portal belongs to the enemy faction (and then the portal will zap you for more damage on top of that). The average level of the items you get is MINIMUM(level of portal, level of player). For example, an L3 player hacking an L7 portal will still only get L3 items on average. You can occasionally get items up to 2 levels more than that.

Ahhhh damn, I learn something every week. I was under the impression that you're not supposed to because there's an Ingress/Vancouver Facebook page where some dude was ranting about it, so I must have misunderstood
Yeah I was scared to do it the first time I came across a team portal. They should call it farm instead of hack for team portals. I think there's a limit to how many times a portal can be linked which is 3 and I know people get pissed about that if you linked a portal they were going to use but they usually talk about those plans in the comm.

If you have free time, we all should do an Android meet lol since there is a bunch of us in this thread in the same area. Instead of wheels and scrape, we'll whip out our phones and make Google kool aid.
