I thought this was a baseball thread.

Boston was playing second fiddle to the Yanks for the past 8 years in the division before this trade. Considering that this trade made Boston weaker and at the same time made N.Y. stronger. Boston fans have alot of ass kicking to look forward to this year.

That is ok, you can always reflect on 2003 and remember the good times.

This wasn't a trade. And there are still plenty of deals that are going to get done before the season starts, but at this point the Yankees have a stronger lineup, but without pitching it might not be enough.

I am actually, anyone can get a year wrong when it doesn't matter that much to them who won. Remember 2004 and smile because things will get ugly this year for you guys.

Give up 5 runs and then score 6 and you still win the game. Besides the Yanks don't have a "bad" pitching staff. It is not full of 20 game winners, but they just need six innings from the starters and they will be fine. Besides there are no deals that Boston can be a part of that makes up for this loss. Hunter is the only replacement that I would want, he is probably the only chance for Boston to save face here.

Hunter would make up for the loss, but the sox are aiming younger these days whereas the yankees keep getting tied up in these huge contracts with players who aren't exactly young or always healthy. When you throw as much money away as Steinbrenner does I guess it isn't an issue.

Like I said, the loss of Damon's bat hurts but I don't think it's the end of the world for the redsox.

If they don't find a replacement it might be the next closest thing. After this I wonder if Manny really wants to stay. Add that to the odds that Ortiz will have another career year like he did last year and it looks grim next year for Boston. The pitching has to be perfect in order to win. Will Schilling be 100%? I honestly don't know his status.

Schilling could be 100%, but I suspect that his 100% in 2006 is still going to be a far cry from his best in years past. He's just getting too old.

And my thoughts on the Damon signing is that I fault his agent the most. Boras is a cancer to MLB.

Ponson is a weird case. He's always had the "potential" tag but now, he's gotta produce. He's had pretty much one good year (2003) and he banked on it. It would kill Orioles fans if he entered spring training weighing 230 and throwing 92-93. If so, he could legitimately be a number 2 or 3 on the Cardinals staff. But if past performance is a future indicator, he'll be sloppy, undisciplined, and give up tons of home runs.

It's unfortunate...I compare this signing to Giambi's departure from Oakland...So, what all MLB fans loved about Damon will be gone with him in NY esp. in that "corporate-crap" culture the Yanks and Steinbrenner demands... They'll suck the fun outta him...it's sad...

Varitek was able to work through Boras to reach a deal that didn't make him a couple of million instant enemies.

But, that's because it's Varitek.

Maybe Damon's more mentally weak...

And I disagree with you, Greenie...if I were a player, I would not sign on with people like Boras in baseball or Rosenhaus of the NFL...

Yeah, but I would use Boras like Varitek did... get him to maximize the contract w/ Boston and everyone would be happy...

Agents are the only evil out there... The owners are paying and setting the market....

Yeah, I agree with you...Without an owner paying the idiot pricing set, there would not be the evil agent. They cannot exist without the other.

But, still...I hate Boras.

They haven't given the specifics, but apparantly it's for a fairly low base salary with a ton of incentives.

He soldout to the enemy for what probably amounts to $1m/yr (after taxes, agents, etc). He soldout his own image. He soldout all his fans.

...and I'm not sure I disagree with the sox - $13m is alot of money for Damon...
