Another significant move is Millwood to the Rangers. They now have a solid staff with Millwood, Padilla, and Eaton. Along with Texiera, Blalock, Young, Wilkerson, and Mench, and Cordero to close it all out. They are looking pretty solid.

The last thing a Cubs fan wants to hear is more baseball crap, unless its a blockbuster deal. I am a little upset about Texas getting Millwood since I felt the Cubs could've used him, but yeah, the Rangers look great. Anyway, GO BEARS, its football season !

Hmm I think this year Texas will finally get themselves together. That seems like the common problem among others over the years for them has been pitching.
But you never know, sometimes team chemistry > talent so maybe it will take them a year or two too get it together.
And wtf Jeff Reardon?

The Manny/Tejada trade rumors just won't die

'Tis the Season for the Four-Way Trade Rumors:
The only thing that's missing is the Mets sending center fielder Milledge to the Sox
http://www.gothambaseball.com/forums...ead.php?t=1924
'Tis the Season for the Four-Way Trade Rumors:
"Multiple independent baseball sources have told GB that the Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays are working on a four-team megadeal that would send -- eventually -- Miguel Tejada to the Red Sox, Kris Benson and Julio Lugo to the Orioles, Aaron Heilman and prospects to the Devil Rays, and Manny Ramirez to the Mets.
"We've been able to piece together some aspects of the deal, but they are subject to change as the teams continue to communicate with one other.
"Mets would send Heilman and (Kaz) Matsui (and $5 million) to Tampa Bay for Lugo. Then New York would send Lugo, Kris Benson, Brian Bannister and Victor Diaz to Baltimore for Tejada, and then send Tejada to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez."

I like Ortiz more than Manny too, but Ortiz is way too... popular I guess. I kind of like Manny's black sheep side. The guy has so much natural ability that he's able to do what he does without even looking like he's trying. And he doesn't seem to give an F about what anybody thinks.

Manny's cuter than Big Papi. :ghey:
My co-worker and her kids met Manny. She said he was super nice, throwing the ball around with him, and gave them autographs. This was before last season. He was training in south FL (he has a home here which AD I'm sure knows since he stalks him) and my co-worker was on how much in shape he was.

If anything, if a team can play nice defense and have solid pitching (well, and a little luck), it can go a long way...the problem right now is, do the BoSox have solid pitching?

IBAF threatens to revoke sanctioning of Classic
Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Baseball's world governing body has threatened to withdraw its sanctioning of the World Baseball Classic unless the Bush administration allows Cuba to compete.
Rich Levin, a spokesman for the commissioner's office, said Friday that a letter was faxed from International Baseball Federation president Aldo Notari, informing Major League Baseball of the IBAF's decision.
It is unclear whether the 16-team tournament, scheduled for March 3-20, would go forward without the IBAF's sanction. The tournament is being jointly administered by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
Notari's letter was first reported Thursday by the Toronto Sun.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control in mid-December denied the request for a license to allow Cuba to participate. The license is necessary because of U.S. laws governing certain commercial transactions with the Fidel Castro-controlled nation.
Baseball reapplied on Dec. 22 after Cuba said it would donate any money it earned from its participation to victims of Hurricane Katrina. The commissioner's office and the union said OFAC had not told them of its decision on the revised application.
"We're hopeful that Cuba will be able to play," Levin said.

I think the sox might be "re-tooling"... We won't have to wait 86 years again, but I don't have high hopes for 2006. I think that solid pitching and defense are things the sox need to work on. Developing players from within our system will also keep payroll costs down.
Our biggest problem with pitching is Schilling and Folke.. If they can come back in the form they were in during the 2004 WS season, we should be in good shape. Don't know if Wells is going to be with the Sox next year either (traded, retire, or he might stay). Beckett, Clemente, Arroyo, and Wakefield are decent...
Once the kids in the system (Papelbon, Lester, Hansen, and Delcarmen) get up to speed, we should be looking better.
